Just for the record too...

Centrals 7 premierships in 9 seasons 2000-2008

Port Adelaide 7 premierships in 9 seasons 1988-1996

Port Adelaide 7 premierships in 9 seasons 1954-1962

Sturt 6 premierships in 9 seasons 1966-1974

If the Dogs win one more next season, they'll beat the 1988-1997 team from Port, but match the Port team from 1954-1963 who also won 8 in 10 seasons, the best thereafter being 9 in 12 seasons by both those Port sides.

The next best is Sturt with 7 in 11 seasons.

Amazing performance by the Dogs, never thought I'd see anyone get near Port Adelaide's efforts...

Are we going to get an SANFL GF that is a close game this decade? I don't think there has been one?

.....

It was the same with the Port team from 1988-1996. They belted just about everyone in the Grand Finals.

Port Adelaide 11.14 80 Central District 6.8 44
Port Adelaide 13.16 94 Central District 6.10 46
Port Adelaide 15.16 106 West Torrens 10.9 69
Port Adelaide 17.3 105 Glenelg 7.7 49
Port Adelaide 16.12 108 Glenelg 13.15 93
Port Adelaide 15.18 108 North Adelaide 1.8 14
Port Adelaide 12.12 84 Glenelg 8.7 55

Every one of them a comfortable victory apart from the 1990 one over Glenelg. The other similarity is that Port kept teams to under 10 goals, the dogs have done that in 5 of their 7 flag wins too. Only the Port team of the 1950's/1960's won most of its flags by small margins. Unfortunately for Bloods fans, they were the one's copping the worst of it, losing 5 grannies by a total of 34 points. Geez you'd wanna hurl yourself off a bridge after that...

As a nuetral observer the game never reached any great heights - tight in the first half then one-sided after that. I felt Glenelg had the run of play for a big part of the second quarter but didn't convert their chances. When it was Central's turn to have the run they nailed the game in about 10 minutes in the third quarter and game over.

Other observations:

- Central's pressure AA+++
- the Gowans twins semed all over the place and rarely made a mistake
- Central play finals footy like Port used to it seems. Simple but tough and accountable footy all day.
- Bays seemed to over-use the footy and didn't get it down there quick enough so Central had time to get their players back
- Grima didn't get good delivery but didn't seem to work hard enough to get into the game despite it (maybe I'm being harsh)
- can't believe the flares

Well done Centrals very well deserved win and congratulations on continuing arguably the greatest era in SANFL history =D>

its one thing to be beaten by a better team......

but its not a level playing field when teams are put together by clever accountants!

perhaps the SANFL has been too soft in this regard?

Guys and gals I took 329 photos today so I'll take me a while to crop them, resize them and upload them but hope to have them up by midnight.
Photos include Sturt Reserves premiership celebrations, pre match stuff from out on the ground, action shots of the game, crowd shots, celebration shots from out on the ground, lap of honour shots from out on the ground and some shots from inside the changerooms including the singing of the song.
Will put them up in seperate groups on the SANFL photo album ASAP.

Congratulations Central, awesome awesome awesome!

Perhaps today is the closest we have been then Wedgie? I'll see your photos of the song and compare it to where I was standing in the rooms, to see if we were nearby.

Awesome day, awesome side. Happy to be part of it.

I'll post thoughts on the game when I can be stuffed.

I actually got a photo of the one that was thrown a millisecond after it left the thrower's hand, pure fluke, will have to inspect the photo closer to see if the perpetrator can be spotted and if he can I'll pass it onto the relevent authorities, throwing them into unsuspecting people is bloody dangerous.

Good stuff Wedgie!! I have read theories that good photographers tend to have more "luck" with chance happenings than the regular casual shutterbug.
I reckon put the photo up on this site also. Shame on the moron who threw it!
