on Goodes, Roos bagged him in a game v geelong and he ended up getting votes from the umps in that game

sort of shows the difference from what coaches and umpires are looking for
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

SDK, surely your joking?

when goodesy is at his best, he's pretty much impossible to match up on, and can dominate in all 3 areas of the field, back, middle and forward. the only player i could think of matching him in pace, height and sheer athleticism, would be buddy franklin, but given his best football is played from the goal square, i think it would be a very rare sight to see that match up happen.

and another amazing fact to remember, goodes started his career as a back-up ruckman to greg stafford, and took his chance when stafford was out injured for a majority of the '00 (i think it was '00 anyway?) season. who else can say they started as a 2nd string ruckman and eventually earn an all-australian as a wingman/on-baller?

Beyond a shadow of a doubt I think Goode's season this year has been overrated (think he was probably rewarded in the Brownlow count by virtue of the fact Sydney have a lot of similar types).

BUT, overall I don't believe he's overrated, at his best he's in the best handful of players running around.

Deledio winning shows the difference between the 3-2-1 system of the Brownlow and the 'consistency' type awards club B&Fs are. Richo's best games were outstanding, and he deserved the amount of Brownlow votes he got, but Deledio was unbelievably consistent. He'd get his 20-25 touches every week with a goal or two, whereas Richo had days (like Rd 22 vs Melbourne, 12 touches and 4 marks), where he didn't do anything really.

Yep, a club B&F is the only individual award to which I attach much credence. To be recognised by your club as it's most valuable player would mean so much more to me than an umpires' award.

Joel Corey mightn't have the pull of an Ablett, Bartel, or a Johnson, but it's hard to go past a guy when he's got the most touches in the AFL... 8)
