AAMI OR ADELAIDE OVAL FOR S.A.N.F.L GRAND FINALS

Postby mal » Wed Oct 01, 2008 8:49 am

ADVERTISER POLL
83% ADELAIDE OVAL
17 % AAMI STADUIM

Personally Im not fazed if the SANFL grand finals are played at either venue.
What concerns me is a level 'PLAYING FIELD'
Players play a whole season + lead up finals without a single game at AAMI
We use AAMI for one game the G/F
This is farcical

Many CD players are aquainted with the ground
I believe only 2 Glenelg players have played at AAMI during thier careers [BACKWELL+ BODE]
I believe this to be some disadvantage to GL this week?

I can just see Mickans speech to the players about training at AAMI this week
" OK lads we meet at Glenelg Oval
from the car park we turn right into Brighton Road
we follow thru to Tapleys Hill Road
we go all the way to West Lakes Boulevard and turn left
now listen carefully lads
whiz+ mouse will be at the front , just follow them to where training will be."
I know its complicated and some of youse will forget, so we will use the same drill Sunday as well...."

Lets make all things fair and square.

And another thing...

If the GF is at Adel Oval the match will sellout with a crowd of 26K. If Norwood make the GF and I (or any other NFC member) have to rely on a scalper to get a ticket I'll be very angry.

Leave it at AAMI.. proof will come this Sunday

Central play 1 match per year at AAMI and are experts on the surface and surroundings? Please. On that logic, finals should not be played at Adel Oval either. It wasnt fair on Norwood as they hadnt played there in 2 years.

Its a patch of grass with white lines painted on it. The team that plays the better footy will win on any footy oval.

The main issue with Adelaide for the GF is capacity given 18000 AAMI stadium members able to attend as part of their membership plus all SACA members able to attend as part of their membership. Of course not all attend but would still mean all western side stand seating would have to be reserved. Also GF is part of the corporate packages at AAMI which would have to be taken into account.

Need to take into account all the SANFL required passes too for the clubs in the early games as well as the GF, the guests, players families, the entertainment folk etc.

Thus the 32000 current maximum is cut to approx 18000 admissions for the public.
Even less for the public if the capacity demed to be less than 32000

At footy park no need to keep space for SACA members and larger capacity means something like 35000 public admissions available.

Thus GF needs to be at AAMI.

Ben Kane has played their for Hawthorn

Willoughby, Block, Panozzo, Allen, Sugars (if selected), Sherwood and Kirk have all palyed finals there too in either Reserves or League.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

It's got to be at AAMI IMO

I think it's an indictment on the SANFL if our Grand Final gets played at Adelaide Oval .... with all due respect to that great ground, but I grew up with SANFL grand finals at Football Park. It's a football ground, it can handle a bigger crowd and it's got the history of the 34 previous Grand Finals that have been played there.

I can tolerate Adelaide Oval for the other finals because I accept having 10,000 people at AAMI looks bad.
In between signatures .....

Out of interest how many people voted in the Advertiser Poll, i saw one recently that only had 6 respondents.

IMO Footy Park is the place for the GF, if there is a concern about the lack of atmosphere close the top deck of the northern stand, if the crowd gets big enough then open it up.
Trust the process.

Kirk and Allen haven't played there, Tassie. The details of who has/hasn't are all here:

I presume quite a few of our other players would have played underage AFL curtainraisers there at some stage too.

Agree with all the comments saying it chould stay the way it is. There is no way it can be improved IMHO and hence any change would only be a step backwards.

Could it be that the majority of the respondents to the Advertiser poll were followers of either the Crows or Power, and would relish the chance of seeing a big spectacle footy game at someplace other than Footy Park? Adelaide Oval is a nice place and I am guessing that people who only ever go to AAMI would love the novelty of a rare chance to see footy there.
I however see the move as destructive to the SANFL, the equivalent of throwing your hands in the air in surrender to a misguided belief that we'll never get more than 26,000 to a SANFL grand final ever again.
Glenelg vs Dogs? 35,000 is my prediction. There is no other place than AAMI.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

That was the poll that said

Do you like the Advertiser?

Option A - Yes
Option B - I love it
Option C - Nothing beats it

If I recall correctly, it was the SANFL that built Football Park, not the AFL clubs.

The biggest game of the year should always be at the home of South Australian Football, no matter what you think of the venue.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

I'm only now starting to warm to lead-in finals being played at Adelaide Oval. The GF needs to be played at AAMI Stadium, particularly with GF crowds on the increase again - Adelaide Oval is currently too small capacity wise for a Grand Final.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

has to stay at AAMI as Adelaide can only fit 32000 people. All well and good now saying move it to Adelaide but what happens when Port, Sturt or Norwood play Central in a Grand Final?

It struggles with 12,000 catering wise and 22,000 comfort wise. 32,000 is insanely beyond Adelaide Oval's capacity.
To tell the truth, anything more than 3,000 has Adelaide Oval struggling in the catering department.

120k used to fit in the MCG too, completely irrelevent as to what those grounds can cater for these days though, about as relevent as what my backyard can fit in it.
