Another good performance from the Eagles boys today.

Looked early on that Grosser was going to cause a few headaches for the backline again, but didn't notice him much in the second half, kicked a couple of good goals early...not sure how many he ended up with...or if he was injured??

Personally thought Robbie Fiacchi was outstanding today, followed closely by Adam Klun their quick thinking and composure under pressure was important. Johnno Lee continues to impress in the ruck, seems to be doing his best work in the second half of games of late, probably didnt win the hitouts overall but the ones he did get, particularly in the middle were a key in getting the win. Thought Ben Arbon was good today also, didnt have alot of touches but made alot of contests and got alot of spoils in at crucial times, Brendan Papps also had a consistent game down back. Tom Couch, Jarred Allmond, Nick Malanovski, Matt Goldsworthy and Damien Williamson continued their good finals form also.

The highs and lows of footy were evident for all to see in the last quarter today, after kicking a goal to bring the margin back to one point, James Sellar's joy at keeping his team in the game lasted for no more than a second as the final siren sounded.

The game next week will be a massive challenge but very similar to that faced by the Reserves side of 2004 when they played South who had finished top and won the other meetings during the year. That result turned out to be the bright note of an otherwise dull day. Footy is a funny game, next week gives the opportunity for the 21 guys that take to the field to end what has been a disappointing season on a positive note.
Trust the process.

Then there was 2000 Columbo - Port had won all three meetings during the year - the Round 21 match at Woodville by 99 points, beat Sturt in the qualifying and then minor premier Central by 46 points - we were 8 wins behind Port in the minor round.

But as for this year, I need to reinforce that belief is the key - footy is played just as much in the mind as it is on the ground.

And anything can happen in finals! Haven't got all my budgets from this year handy atm Spelly, what was the lowest position the reserves were at on the ladder during the season, think it was atleast 7th or 8th at one stage.

Had Fitzgerald down for 6.5.

Thought Klun was our best, his whole game effort was outstanding. R. Fiacchi,s last quarter was sensational he has been sorely missed in the league team this year.......will be like a new classy recruit next year.
Malinovski has been a revelation in the last minor round game and the finals. Has finally come to grips with football at this level after missing two years, must be retained for next year.

Lets keep it in context boys , major step up to be able to produce the same footy in a league game , Malinowski couldnt impress Fuller to get more than a few games this year , & surely we will have a stronger squad next year . Ressies footy is a long way off top league action .

Yep Columbo the seconds were dead set last at one stage.then I think they beat the then number one side and didn't look back.

Not quite, we were 8th after Rounds 10 and 13. From then on, our record has been 9-2 - one loss by 7 goals to Sturt at Unley and one by 51 points to Glenelg at Woodville.

then from what appeared to be a fair (but sickening) clash of bodies between McGregor(?) and Williamson, saw Williamson being knocked out and if it was Lachlan McGregor; I heard he had a broken leg out of the clash. Williamson did get to his feet and was helped off, while McGregor was carried off on a stretcher.

The Glenelg player was Tom Wallent, very bad concussion, which is at the other end of his body from his leg. Definately not a broken leg. The free kick was quite bewildering to say the least. Goal to Eagles, in the end, Bays lose by a point. Oh well, that's footy. As hard as it is to swallow, no point whingeing about an umpiring decision that happened over 7 hours ago - won't change anything now.

wasnt bewildering from what I saw, eagles player marked the ball, and the tigers player came in late...so they were always going to have a shot for goal anyway

Supposedly the rule for qualification to play in the reserves finals is that the player must have played 3 of the last 5 rounds in the reserves competition. There is also an appeals tribunal to consider abnormal cases. In the case of the Eagles there were some very baffling decisions.
Adam Klun went L,L,L,L,L,L,L,Inj,Inj, Allowed to play reserves finals.
Goldsworthy went 2,2,2,2,L,L,L,L,2. Allowed to play reserve finals.
Fitzgerald went L,L,L,L,L,L,L,2,2,2,2,L,L, Allowed to play bccause he played 3 of the last 5 games in the reserves. Played 16 league games for the year.
Schwarze went L,L,L,2,2,Inj,Inj,Inj,2,2. Was not allowed to play in reserves finals. Schwarze was clearly a reserves player for the last 7 games.
The final guidance for the Eagles players should have been the last minor round game of the year when both the league team and reserves team had to beat port magpies to make the finals, I am sure the best league team would have been picked, no dodgy selections here. Summing up, even though Goldsworthy didn't qualify under the 3/5 rule he played the last game in the reserves and I feel the decision to allow him to play in the reserves finals was correct. Adam Klun although injured for the last two rounds should not have been allowed to play reserves finals, his form was clearly good enough to retain his spot in the league team. Some people might say that for the last two matches Klun was replaced in the league team by a reserves player, therefore Klun possibly replaces this player in the reserves finals. Fitzgerald should never have been allowed to play in the reserves finals - played 16 league games for the year.
Schwarze although he played 12 league games at the beginning he was clearly a reserves player for the last third of the season and should have been allowed to play reserves finals.
It's just bloody confusing.
