Effectively the 4th or 5th elimination final in a row for the Eagles boys this week, hopefully they can play at the standard they have set over the last month, if they can it should be a cracker. Bays had Kirk in last time we played and along with Grosser they stretched us with their height and strength.
Trust the process.

Bays should play the reserves premiers next week...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Eagles 2.3 5.7 10.9 14.12 (96)
Glenelg 4.2 8.5 11.8 14.11 (95)

I might remind everyone of that quote from last week: "If you think you can or can't, then you're probably right". This week, even while 31 points down during the second, I could see the Eagles players had the belief that they can win. The chasing and harassing and tackling did not let up at any stage of the day. I thought Glenelg appeared to be a class above us when it came to skill level, but even that changed during the third.

Eagles did have a 7 point advantage midway though the first, but as I said, the Glenelg skill level combined with the more League experienced players saw through the next 6 out of 7 goals. This is when Fitzgerald stepped up in the forward line, but I thought that his two misses may have stalled the comeback.

But it did not, the lead being reduced to 4 points in the third, before another two Glenelg goals cancelled that out. However, that belief was still present, with the terrier Malinovski leading the way in the pressure. We actually gained the lead with about 5 minutes left in the third, but then the momentum swung back the other way.

For the greater part of the last, an arm wrestle took place. Scores were level at 11.9 and then with one point in it, a high kick by an Eagles forward player looked to be scraping through for a behind, but the wind took it, and left McEntee to mark the ball. He should have shephered it through, but instead dropped the mark and the scores were level again at 12.11. Goldsworthy not long after slotted a goal on the run, then from what appeared to be a fair (but sickening) clash of bodies between McGregor(?) and Williamson, saw Williamson being knocked out and if it was Lachlan McGregor; I heard he had a broken leg out of the clash. Williamson did get to his feet and was helped off, while McGregor was carried off on a stretcher.

I did say it appeared to be a fair contest, but Williamson was awarded a belated free which was taken by Fitzgerald. His goal put the margin out to 14 points. However it was still only 21 minutes into the quarter. This was reduced to 7 by the 28 minute mark. Finally, at the 31 minute mark, I thought we may be overrun when another goal was kicked. However just as the goal umpire indicated the goal, the siren went, to end a great game of footy.

The important thing for the players heading into this weeks Grand Final: No matter what anyone says - neutral fans, Sturt fans, even Eagles fans - you can win it. Glenelg cannot win the Reserves pennant because they aren't there. You are.

Great review spelly. Much appreciated. Well done to the ressies. I can't believe they have made the GF from where they were. According to the "experts" there were only three teams in it, and the Eagles weren't one of them...

I don't care who says what about Sturts side being so dominant, these group of players if they believe in themselves enough as shown today can do it. Like last week, the word "can't" should never be contemplated.

I only saw the last 5 minutes but one point -

Who is the incompetent fool from the Eagles that continues to put their team in the Yellow jumper against Glenelg? Looked across the oval and all you could see was Yellow....unreal that they cant get this right, their home jumper with white shorts (or even blue shorts FFS) would be perfect and not clash....

Surely cant be that hard?

Good review Spelly, pretty much spot on. Thought the Bays looked more dangerous and in control of the game than us, but just a terrific effort to stay in the game. Even though it was only the reserves, though there was a bit of pace there that was lacking in the league side often this year. What did Fitzgerald kick, must have been about 5.5, and some of those were sitters.

I couldn't tell you for certain, because I was in the Bradman Stand for the match, and I didn't bring my glasses, nor a pair of binoculars. ;) I know he kicked at least 3.2. There are some pacy players in that side, Malinovski and Goldsworthy are two that come to mind. And I forgot to mention a good mark taken in the last quarter by Adam Jolly.

The Glenelg player was Tom Wallent, very bad concussion, which is at the other end of his body from his leg. Definately not a broken leg. The free kick was quite bewildering to say the least. Goal to Eagles, in the end, Bays lose by a point. Oh well, that's footy. As hard as it is to swallow, no point whingeing about an umpiring decision that happened over 7 hours ago - won't change anything now.

I heard someone say something about a broken leg after the match, I couldn't have seen how that would have happened, but things can be quite innocuous at times. Thanks for correcting me though, the thing was so quick to happen and I only got to see a quarter of one number of Wallents guernsey

Lee, yes, he did play well, he took quite a few marks around the ground, as well as winning his fair share of hit outs.

My best was Robbie Fiacchi but the coaches see things differently.

The bump was sickening and hopefully the lad from the Bays is OK - Williamson a bit sore but is fine for us.

Pat Guffredia swears he smothered a ball at the southern end which was signalled a goal so over a game i tend to think it balances out most times.
