I don't think Lonergan is up for it and if I was the Cats I look at recruiting someone like a Damon White to compliment the Tomahawk.
Hate to say I told ya so but I said they should have gone in without Lonergan and played Wojo, Wojo would have been very good in that game which was suited to his style and would quite possibly made a difference to the end result.
We'll be around the mark again but the Hawks will be hard to beat with the 3rd youngest list in the AFL!

Wojinski wouldnt have made a spot of difference to the final result. It wasnt a lack of run or anything that cost Geelong the game. It was the shithouse disposal going into the 50 which really cost the Cats. Johnson may have had 34 disposals, but I lost count the amount of times he kicked around his body into the 50 and turned it over...would have happened at least 10 times. Over handball running inside 50 and coughing it up, refusal to kick long, constantly trying to pick out 10-15 metre kicks to players that were covered. Very very wasteful.

So unless Wojo would have had 37 inside 50s and gone against the trend of the game of coughing it up, Hawthorn still would have won.

Lonergan is a great story...but hes just an average player complimented by an awesome midfield and small forward line. He may have kicked 2-3 goals a week over the second half of the year, but hes not the kind of player that would stand up and win you a game and you get the feeling anyone could play that role and kick goals. Hawkins potentially is that player that has something different to bring to the table (big body, strong contested mark). Maybe another tall marking target up forward could have stretched Hawthorn (especially once Croad went off).

I think as has been mentioned already, Geelong were found out for having no plan B. When you only lose 1 game for the year and barely find yourselves behind in a match I guess there is reason for that happening, but thats something Thompson will seriously look at in the summer.

Good call on Lonergan.
Likewise stokes and Varcoe, kick goals in a side which smashes everyone and has blokes like Mooney and S. Johnson who pass off inside 50 all the time.
Cats will definitely be top 4 next year, will lose 4+ games tho I reckon. Other teams improving..

If Geelong lose 3-4 players good players & other clubs gain 3-4 then its going to even out in the long run.
Geelong should be still in the top 1-3 next year otherwise.

I wouldn't have had Stokes and Varcoe in the same forward line. Why not push Johnson into the goalsquare on his own and let him work some magic the way Jarman did in 97/98?

Geelong will still finish in the top 2 next year and play in the GF, they just need to think outside the square a bit more if challanged. Swing a Mackie or Milburn forward or something, or Bartel, he's got excellent hands for a midfielder. But if you're having an off-day, having two small forwards (Stokes and Varcoe) is a big risk, as they can only play as well as the rest of the side.

Glad you're satisfied with the one grand Final win over Port from our last 6 appearances Wedgie, I on the other hand are absolutely gutted!

Yeah thats me mate, there's more to life than football. Im having too much fun to be gutted about any sporting result. We're all different though mate, that's what makes the world and interesting place!
