Hot im melbourne today, which will test the fitness of the hard running midfielders.
For Geelong:
Ablett, Bartell, Corey, Kelly, Ling Are a formitable lineup. Ablett will get a tag, Bartell will also get close attention.
For Hawthorne:
Hodge (although probably will head back at some stage), Crawford, Lewis, Mitchel, Christ forget his name, there dreds fella, runs hard, (what the **** is wrong with me today). Anyway have to watch Mitchels work around clearances.
Looks to be a hard hitting contest, The Hawks are known for his but Geelong are hard and tough as well would be unlikey to be bothered by thugerary.

All in all what a contest. For me the result will depend on a few things:
1) Ruck duels, Ottens is the key, if he fires up and gets the cats first use of it then they will be rolling and when geelong get rolling there hard to stop. Hence why this is important, Big job for Robert Cambell today, with out Taylor to back him, although Relouf aint bad i feel the cats second ruckman Blake is much better and overall the Cats are slightly in front here.
2) The cats forward line has a number of goal scorers capable of causing problems. Mooney will get the best defender and Johnson the next best. But the likes of Lonergern, Chapman, Varcoe and Stokes need to be watched as they are capable of kicking plenty if no attention is given to them.
3) HAwks forward line - Franklin V Scarlett is a huge battle. If Scarlett can hold the big hawk then more pressure will flow to Roughhead who will probably have Taylor to contend with - whos is no slouch down Back. Rioli and Williams are the others that can have an impact but willaims can be covered and rioli, well I thought that Woji would have been the ideal man for this with his pace but this looks to be an opening for the Hawks -who will go with him? .I feel Harley can have a big say here covers the defensive line well and can clog it up and gve the Cats the advantage.

My thoughts for today, Im looking forward to a big barbie a huge game, some beers and a damn good day.

My tip: Geelong by 25 points.
Norm Smith: Joel Corey - will be slutting on a wing causing trouble today.

Thanks all - Enjoy.

Agreed - Stokes offered nothing.

I'm still laughing at Bomber Thompson matching Stokes up with Hodge. Did you see prior to the bounce when Stokes was punching Hodge in the ribs and Hodge was standing there with his arms in the air laughing at him? Classic :)

That was a funny moment AH, Hodge is one hard unit and Stokes was never going to harm him.

Why is this in the Crows Nest? This has nothing to do with Adelaide whatsoever...... and there are other threads in the AFL forum that discuss this..... :?

on the way to a BBQ yesterday, I rated the game 60/40 Geelong's way, so no, I was not surprised to see Hawthorn win.
I also posted in the Gambling Forum that Geelong were not over the line.

Hawthorn were always a big chance to get over them. On paper they matched up pretty well.

Still 21-1....just goes to show you cant take anything for granted.

Such a pity,just such a pity.

Nothing hurts more than in years to come thinking what might have been. When you are the best etam during the year and have nothing, absolutely nothing to show for it at the end of the year it really, really hurts.

Not sure what else I can say,but the pain is terrible, the thoughts of 'what if' in the coming days,weeks,months,years......
