SANFL Footy Marathon

Postby Brad Man » Fri Sep 26, 2008 11:43 am

Like on the Channel Seven tonight the AFL Footy marathon would love to see a SANFL edition. Play some of the old SANFL Grand Finals on the ABC start late on the Saturday night as a build up to this years Grand Final

but the snag would be do the relevant stations have complete vision from the televised GF's? then another issue is do they still have it on file

Back a couple of years ago when Foxtel had a dedicated footy channel, they showed plenty of the past grand finals so the footage is definitely out there.

But wasent that because the same people that own foxtel also own channel 7, thats also why channel 10 didnt have marathons because 7 wouldnt give them the footage

I think something similar to this was done on one of the channels about 10/15 or so years ago, was on during an arvo though in the lead up to the SANFL grand final. I think it was ch 9.

Channel 10 would be the best bet to do it now, as they would have all the old (channel 7) ADS tapes, the best hope would be to get Simply Footy to do an extended 2 or 3 hour show with old grand finals next saturday arvo.

I vaguely remember channel 9 doing it prior to the 1990 GF.

And since channel 9 dropped SANFL coverage like a hot potato once the AFL muscled in, it hasn't happened since, except for C31's effort a couple of seasons back.

I remember watching C31's marathon a couple of years ago. Whilst it's great they did one, the obvious problem is that hardly anyone can get C31 - we can't get it at our place (I was away for the weekend before the 2006 GF hence why I was able to watch it back then).
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

unfrotunately the people who make the decisions (tv exec's) wouldnt even entertain the thought of running something like an sanfl footy marathon say next saturday night, c31 tried and failed dismally (imho), i would love to see a marathon but it wont happen unfortunately

I'll just have my own footy marathon I think...

I found the old VHS tape of the 2000 Grand Final the other night cleaning the house and I haven't watched it for probably 5 years now so I might prep myself with that and my favourite DVD (the 2004 record SANFL GF margin v Eagles) the night before.

I've got plenty of old tapes and DVD's that I can keep me amused and motivated for the GF !!
