If you go back there are plenty of SA players from days gone past, that if they were around now would of made gun AFL players.
Michael Graham is one that comes to mind, he had pace, commitment ,courage and class.
Although I dont go for Sturt ,I always remember his brilliance and if he was around nowaday, what a gun he would be in the AFL.
But I guess you could also say that about heaps of past SA players, but he had all the attributes for the modern game we watch today. 8)

Post the introduction of the two AFL clubs, I'd say Todd Davey and Troy Clements were pretty decent players who could have made it if they were given a chance.
Steve Bradbury and Michael Milton. Aussie Legends.

Perhaps Peter Carey in his prime? I reckon some VFL (sic) clubs put out a few feelers towards him, but I don't know that he ever got a concrete offer. Am happy to be told otherwise.

Don't quote me but I think St Kilda chased him pretty hard in the 1979-1980 period. I recall reading soemthing about it in the Footy Times year books of that era.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Luke Crane at moment I guess although that may possibly change in near future if he wants to and AFL club wants him.
No doubt would be considered too small at 170cm.

Gavin Colville possibly earlier in his career.
Josh Coulter with his head screwed on right although he was a rookie at Crows at one point.
Craig Parry
Ben Warren IMHO would have made a handy third or fourth option in attack.

think too that his height will hold him back from AFL - not too many players his height playing AFL - if any one can think of any AFL players about the 170 mark - would be interested in seeing

Dont necessarily reckon that would matter, someone like Mitchell (and many oter onballers) arent viewed as marking targets so you need the pace, and Luke has that, his biggest hurdle is GC17 and a deep draft.

Allan's skills are second to none in this state but he might be regarded as a tad small for AFL.

us being north fans, yes we have seen a true champion. i would have thought heath younie was always worthy of a spot on an afl list.

If Rob Shirley can play 100 AFL games, then any player currently playing SANFL footy would be worth a shot! Corey AhChee should have definately been given a crack IMHO. And from a few years ago, Heath Hopwood was one of the best players at reading the play that ive watched at this level. Whenever i watch Jeremy Clayton, i always think he should still be playing at the next level. Pace shouldn't be more important than brains!

As a younger fella, Heath was on West Coast's rookie list I think...
