Err... as a supporter of a team that has consistantly finished in these 2 positions over the past decade... this is NOT success !!!

That's the problem with WWTFC... saying it's enough to make the GF... Centrals & Port know what success is... WINNING FLAGS !!!

No, not at all.

I love going to watch South lose and never play finals.
I love getting crap and abuse from other supporters with their smart arse remarks on how s**t we are and how we should have never moved to Noarlunga.
I love getting 3 or more different coached every year.
I love getting some hope by making the finals in 2006 and seeing us self destruct from there.
I love being depressed on a Saturday night after a game.
I love thinking " I think we will go well this year" and it turns to s**t.
I love other teams thinking "Its only South".....
I love our constant mediocrity.

I would never call that BORING......

In the end......I love South Adelaide
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

I must admit I'd hardly ever noticed South or the success or lack of it.
I recall they did have a brief good patch in the 60s, and that Peter Darley had a property called "Yelrad Park" on the Echunga Rd just outside Hahndorf.

Will your expectations change for next year because you missed the finals?
Sometimes fininshing 2nd or 3rd is better than some of the alternatives.
Remember back to the Woodville and West Torrens years, you would have taken the 2nds & 3rds consistently.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

Add in the years from 1945 until 1963 and you get a better perception of South's long term lack of success. In those 19 years the highest they ever finished was sixth in an eight team competition. As a child I never heard of them referred to as South Adelaide, they were always known as poor old South.

Everyone other than Port supporters were thrilled when they won the 1964 Grand Final after having won only a couple of games the year before. They had very competitive sides in 1965 and 1966 but by 1969 they had won another wooden spoon.

In 1959 there was a move to exclude them from the league and have them replaced by Centrals. It went to a vote and they only survived by the casting vote of the league president. Would we have been a better league with only 8 teams rather than go to a 10 team comp?

I thought this year with John Cahill as coach may have changed their culture, but that clearly didn't work.

The standing joke used to be that South Adelaide was the only club with 50 members and 51 factions, but a few other clubs could challenge that fact now.

All good comments... To answer your question,

NO... 2nd or 9th means the same... all 2nd says is that you were "the best loser"
No prize for finishing 2nd, mate 8)

I'm not bored.
Very frustrated.
After their last finals appearance I thought they'd go well and maybe make the grand final.
Very disappointing.

All good news for the Panthers, for those interested refer safc.com.au re players signings (including James Boyd... phew) and coaching appointments. With all the up and coming "kids" signing on plus the regulars good senior players together with Robbie Neill, Tony Burgess and Ben Hollands taking on coaching roles next year is something to look forward to.
In regards to the move to Noarlunga, this saved the club financially and has gone a long way to securing a long term future for the grand old club.

As a Sturt supporter i know the frustrations, i went in the drab times of the late 80's and early 90's to the games watching us get thrashed but i was still there supporting them though. With some changes to the coaching panel that will be good, what South have to change next is some of the board people, look at what Sturt did when they changed some of the board people, new ideas were done and then success came along. South need to work some more with theire local area as well, they are starting to do that slowly so time will help them out.
