Fregus Watts was traded for draft pick 17 in 2005 after we got him with pick 14 in 2003

So it was all looking OK at that stage however we used that no 17 pick on Darren Pfeiffer who ultimately left for the PSD

It's interesting to trace trades & drafts back through

Hopefully we look back one day at the AMAZING steal Walker was for pick 75!

Still rate the J. Hird one - in the 70's :)

IF Walker was available through he would have gone top 20. Was in the under 18 All Australian team and dominated his 3 games in the TAC cup.

What was Fergus Watts, seriously the bloke couldn't play, he honestly thought he was far better than he really was, he thought he was hard done by with the Crows yet got drafted by St Kilda & still can't get a kick in the VFL. Another great selection by James Fantasia!

Didn't get a whole lot of it yesterday Taylor, but looks sensational when he's got it.
Great mover, sensational kick

Was manhandled a bit off the ball, probably due to his lack of size and as with many teenagers who get frustrated, they stop working and presenting, which is exactly what happened ... The furstration then just grows further when your man runs off you.

I'd think NC and Co. would have watched him pretty closely yesterday and will work on that with him ... At the end of the day he had poor/slow delivery which didn't do him any favours and still could have kicked 6 goals or so, which I guess says it all when you've been comprehensively beaten by your opponent but still had chances.

Was Fantasia responsible for bock, rutten, vince, douglas, van berlo, griffin, maric etc???? its a gamble the recruitement game especially with undeveloped kids. i bet there are alot of players who fall by the way side after promising alot in the under 18's!!!!!!!

Agreed
Coady ruffed him up every chance he got, he bumped into hiim and made it uncompfortable... and when coady ran off him walker was no where to be seen. If that was in the AFL he would have been shown up 10x that and it just proves that craigy was right and he isnt ready for AFL.

Walker's obviously still a young lad who has impressed so far.
I managed to get a copy of the Elimination Final to check out his skills and this is where he had a great game.

Speaking to my old man at Xmas, he said Walker reminds him of a young Phil Carman.
Hopefully fans don't expect too much too soon and he can be allowed time to further develop.

F*&^%, that's a big call

Kings College used to get a thousand people to their 1st 18 games just to watch Carman

I only saw him in a final last year but will go and watch this year now

He has more natural ability than any of the the young Crows forwards since perhaps Modra IMHO ... Still doesn't mean he's assured of a long and successful AFL career, as AFL is, as we all know, a very different kettle of fish.

He's not blindingly fast, overly tall, or the high leaping pack type and the AFL guys will pick this up in a heartbeat.

That said, he has a a beautiful pair of hands, can roost the ball like a mule, and is a natural at ground level near goal with quick thinking.

I'm looking forward to watching his progress over the next however many years.

The other thing that could be interesting, is that I reckon if he's to REALLY succeed at AFL level, he will require his coach to have a flexible game plan, one that particularly targets his game.

Meeting him in person he had that thick-set looking build to him, I don't think he'd have too many problems putting on the right kind of weight ... Has a fair set of mits on him too, Chicken must be a staple feed out Broken Hill way ;)

lucky Cornes isn't the coach - he wouldn't get a game until he was 28 (unless he was from Glenelg)

One thing he really needs to be mindful of is aerobic capacity. At SANFL last year, he was found with hands on knees a number of times at reasonably early stages in matches. Against AFL teams on grounds like the MCG, this will get out quick as lightning and teams would exploit it. After a full pre-season though, this should improve noticeably. A pleasure to watch. The natural footy smarts are there and very quick reflexes also.

it has been a while since we have had anything to be excited about. it was looking good until hentschel went down 2 years ago. if he can stay at 90% all year it will help a hell of a lot.
