Central v Glenelg 2nd Semi review

Whilst I understand the natural anger of Glenelg supporters not wanting to see any of their players get hurt, my opinion after seeing the video is that it was a good, hard tackle and Schell wanted him to know it.

Schell is hardly one of the nastiest guys going around either so I doubt 100% that he would know in that short space of time that Rudolph was concussed.

McConnell played just about the worst finals game ever played you'd think. Only game I can think that was worse was Conways 0 disposal 1 free against 96 GF effort. Absolute spectator.

The tackle was an interesting one. As everyone knows the AFL are trying to stamp that tackle out of the game. Rudolph still had the ball though so its not like it was late. He still had the ball on the ground and whilst Schell grinding him into the turf two times looked a bit OTT, I dont think he would have known he was knocked out.

Very low. A great tackle spoiled by a bad act of poor sportsmanship. Certainly guilty of rough conduct, if the powers that be could be arsed doing the right thing and reporting him from video. That Rudolph went off in a stretcher and a neck brace defines exactly how low this act was. A spinal injury is possibly the worst thing a bloke could inflict upon another bloke on a footy ground. I do hope for Sammy's sake that he's OK - and Mr. Schell would do well to hope he pulls up OK too.

What a load of crap this is becoming. If Rudolph got up no one would be saying a damn thing. This happens all the time in a game of footy and nothing happens. It was a fair tackle that caused the damage not what happnened after.
]You lost get over it. Rudolph was sitting on the bench in the last quarter.

So this incident was the only thing worth saying about this game.
Maybe we were all at a different game.

Two people, one male, one female.

As for the bloke, what a CLOWN and TOOL. The Snouts gave a huge cheer for James Gowans  when he tackled the halfwit.

As for the sheila, if she'd gotten her kit off then she'd have been a legend. Instead she's as big a tool as her boyfriend.

Why would you run onto the ground with your kit still on ferchrissakes?

Any club colours ?

The SANFL upped the 96 GF crowd figure by one after reviewing Conways stats :D

After an even 1st half where both teams had the ascendancy at times the Dogs showed in the third quarter that they were too good:
1. First to the footy,
2. Where clean with their hands
3. Hit their targets
4. kicked when in doubt rather than handpassed, and
5. didn't miss when in scoring range

Too good today, looking forward to poentially haveing teh opportunity for redemption in two weeks time. Confident we can learn from that.

tassie, you obviously didn't see what happened yet you comment   the tackle was superb yes & unfortuneate sam had his head hit the turf, it was what happened after that which was disgraceful, schell 'pushed/slammed' sams head into the turf 4 or 5 times in a vigorous manner.....i'll bet daniel would be regretting this action

So that makes it ok then.
Fair enough retaliation should be allowed unless performed by a centrals player.

Oh please! More whining than a plane load of poms!

First thing you are taught;
1.tackle hard.make him feel it
2 stick the tackle.
Sticking the tackle is exactly what Schelly was doing.Christ, you lot would have got roughed up by the Silver Ferns today.

All you are doing is looking for a whipping boy other than the 21 wearing black and gold today!

Secondly, they controlled much of the second quarter - apart from not converting their opportunities. Thirdly, Grima's performance was excellent - probably BOG. Rudolph (until the unfortunate tackle) also looked very good and was prepared to break lines. Glenelg will learn from the experience and come out much harder next weekend.

Agree with all that. I'd venture to say Glenelg played well in the second of the first AND for much of the second. They only slackened for a minute or two in the second, and Central slammed on a couple of quick ones in this time. Can't give the Dogs an inch! Certainly Glenelg fluffed a number of chances up forwards whereas Central did not. If Glenelg had finished off as well as Central they might have been a couple up at half time. The real match-killer was that third term.

I was thinking Grima BOG and Rudolph second too; not sure who I'd have in third...

Well what game were you at, whatever you think Schell did it was only 2 times not 4 or 5, and wouldnt a slam or push be from having his hands on Rudolphs head or shoulders not under him.

Tassie, I may be clutching at short straws here but could it be said that he was trying to shake the ball free from Rudolph's clutches?
