BZZZT Wrong!
It was traditional to invade the game after premiership wins and was NOT traditional to invade the oval after someone scores 100 goals.

no mate your wrong i recall distinctly running on the ground as a kid when fred phillis kicked his tons & i also know it was done for ken whelan, scott hodges, stephen nicholls & malcolm blight among some others as for the gf yes that was stopped

I recall not running onto the ground when Grenville Dietrich or John Roberts ran onto the ground, just because you broke the law don't assume its tradition for law abiding people.
Ive read a book about Ken Farmer and I don't recall people invading the ground then (I could be wrong) but I definately recall photographs of people invading the ground after Grand Finals, that was TRADITIONal.

Watching the tv coverage on the ABC, there appeared to be a particularly loud Sturt supporter who could be heard throughout the game, wasn't anyone from this site was it

That could be because I had about 14 beers under my belt by then, it could also be because we had started to crank it up by that stage.

A great day at the footy, looking forward to the bays next week.

Tough footballers win games of footy. We had more of them than Sturt did. I wasn't surprised.

A great win by the boys. Sadly, could not be there due to illness. Hoping to recover by next week, although close wins like this do not help the health!
From watching it on the idiot box, I think it was intensity and desperation winning out over skills. I think Sturt had the better skills and the better system up forward but Central played as if they had the will to win and the belief that if they kept on plugging away they could get there. Am still thinking our skills could improve much on what we showed today.
Also congratulations to Norwood - great to see the two clubs wearing Red, White and Blue win!

It was bedlam outside the ground leading up to the EF. The queue to get into the northern carpark was backed up to near North Terrace (I ended up parking near the old channel 10 studio - where I normally end up parking for Adelaide Oval finals, just had to fight through a few more cars to get there). Then the quite lengthy queues to get into the ground (a big thankyou to the person giving out free tickets where I was standing in the queue at the Clarrie Grimmet entrace) - never seen queues this long to get into the ground for finals before.

Now onto the game

The first quarter was insipid. Many undisciplined frees given out, awful delivery inside our 50 and some poor defensive work.

The second quarter was full of wasted opportunies - inside our 50 upteen times for 1.6 whilst Sturt got it up in their 50 twice for 2.0. Should have been 3.0 if it wasn't for a complete lack of discipline by Sturt, giving Westhoff a free on the wing when a Sturt player was going for goal from 20 metres out dead in front. Then 5 minutes of brilliance from Centrals kicking 3.0 to bring the deficit back to a couple of points. The third goal was brilliant - some intelligant rucking by Buckets sends the ball inside 50, then Callinan does his specialty (running out from a pack into an open goal).

Third quarter was like the first. Entries inside 50 were awful - many sailing over a Centrals player. Defense was insipid as Sturt built a 23 point lead.

Then there was the last quarter. What an amazing last quarter. We did everything right, Sturt struggled to do anything right. The first 2 goals in the first 3 minutes set us up for one heck of a remainder of the game. Then all those misses to hit the lead before Noodles marked it in a pack and kicked truly. I thought playing piggy in the middle with Chambers was dangerous (tho Sturt shot themselves in the foot by having no one support Chambers), and Sturt nearly pinched it.

So all up, we lead for 4 minutes - but lead when it counted most. 9th straight 2nd semi next week whilst the two sides that have blown big leads against us recently (Sturt and Norwood) battle it out in the first semi. Something that should be a concern for Sturt is that this is the second straight final they've lead for 95%+ of the game and been overrun in the last quarter and lost. They'll need to focus on their finishing skills this week and playing to win in the last quarter (as opposed to playing to not lose).

Listening on the radio whilst washing the cars today, gee Sturt had all the momentum and then bang away it goes.

Well done sturt supprters you cost your side the game today, hope you can look Rick and the boys in the face.

In the third and last qtrs it was interesting how many times the familiar names came up, Thomas, Slade, McCabe, Gowans(s).
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Excellent summary Brucetiki.

From my vantage point (on the sofa watching the ABC) it looked like Central wanted to go the niggle and play the man early on. Sturt capitalised on this - first 2 goals were direct results of ill Central discipline.

When Central did get into gear they were horrible up forwards. Sturt didn't have many forward forays in the second, but their defenders managed to repel anything which came their way until Central finally clicked late in that term.

But in that final term we saw a different Central side - they started playing the game as well as it can be played. Sturt was very much on the back foot, looked tired and spent. Can't fault the Blues for putting in a four quarter effort, but geez the dogs walked on water in that last term.

Glenelg will want to focus on the game for four full quarters to have any chance whatsoever of beating Central next week. I for one am glad they had the week off, they'll be needing it!

Considering you were not at the game you are hardly in a position to make that judgement TM.
Chambers 100th goal came in the 2nd quarter.
At half time Sturt were up by 3 points,
At 3/4 time Sturt were up by 23 points .
Lost the game by 3 points more than an hour after the ground invasion.
Game was lost by the players on the field not the spectators who entered the arena.
p.s they weren't all Sturt supporters,I saw plenty of Port and Norwood scarves out there too.

Still gutted about this game 2 hours later. We all know that with 1 bad qtr of football Sturt have just handed the 08 flag to CD - the winner of today's qual final was always going to beat Glg next week and stroll into the GF with the benefit of a week's rest. As a Sturt fan I don't know who I prefer to win out of Glg & CD next week. First of all Sturt have to beat a Weatherald-inspired Nwd (geez I hope scores aren't close in the last qtr..) but then is it better for Sturt to play CD again in the Prelim and then be a battered & bruised outfit to play Glg a week later or should Sturt take on CD in the GF and hopefully get Barnaby French into the team...
