Central's finals record since 1999

Postby Hondo » Fri Sep 12, 2008 5:00 pm

On my stats CD are 16-2 in finals since 1999. That's 16 wins out of 18 starts

Their only 2 losses were the 2002 and 2006 Grand Finals. Every other time they have turned out in a final since 1999 they have won.

That's an amazing record of success in finals, it would have to be one of the best finals records in 10 consecutive seasons of all time ... regardless of what happens in 2008.

If my memory is correct Central have been playing in FINALS since 1994.

The only year they missed out was in 1999.

I have been to all of them.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

reckon they will add to that win ratio again on Sunday, if 2 things in recent times go well together its the Centrals League side and Finals, an awesome combination

Here's some other 8 season runs to match the Centrals 2000-2007 run

Sturt
1964-1971
13-4

Port
1992-1999
21-5

1974-1981
16-5

So the Centrals record is pretty darn good...

But then here's another stat... Centrals v Sturt in 2002, 4-1 to the Dogs. Well done there...

And of course the one win for Sturt was the one that matters...

They certainly proved in that season (02) that it doesn't matter how dominant a side can be throughout the minor round, it is how you perform on the big stage in finals, in particular the GF, that counts. In saying all that, the Dogs record is hard to ignore, will be a great game.

Agreed. I honestly think Glenelg and Sturt are better sides than Centrals this year, but one would be foolish to dismiss the Dogs. They are the hardened finals professionals in the league and everyone else is moderately experienced at best.

While we've made the finals 10 times in the last 11 seasons, our record is 7-10 in the majors... Sturt v Centrals matches this year have been predominantly tough affairs and I don't see that changing this Sunday.

Whoever wins is going to have earnt it... Glenelg I'm sure will be hoping its a painful day for both sides. I don't envy the loser, the elimination match the following week won't be easy either.

I'm not scared. Norwood has not lost a final since 2002. 8)

we just beat the dogs at home, we won at elizabeth in the day after a dominant 3 quarters only for centrals to wake and storm home but run out of steam and they flogged us at night a few weeks after....

id rather play central next week and sturt in a prelim final

i would be extremely confident of beating sturt, they dont worry me, but centrals.................................................

Unbelievable, it feels like a privilege to be alive during this period, Ive always looked back on Ports and Melbournes effort in the 50s in awe and wondered what it would be like to be around then, now I know.

Central are the new Port the team that is always in the finals, winning finals and winning flags, The team everyone love to beat and loves to hate hate. They may have a few wanker supporters (what tean doesnt?) but think we notice it more cos everyone love to support a winning team.

Give me Central over Port anyday!
