PICKETT B. PORT 61.00 ???

I can only think someone put some money on VERY early in the betting, ie before the season started.

ADVERTISER 08/09/08 PAGE 2

60/1 bet for certain loser

MATT WILLIAMS
CITY EDITOR

________________________________________________________________________________

A BOOKMAKER is offering 60-1 odds on former Port Adelaide and North Melbourne star Byron Pickett winning the Magarey Medal despite the fact he has not played a SANFL game this season.

Thornton Sportsbet yesterday had Pickett listed in its online Magarey Medal market a $61 chance.

But with no chance of Pickett recieving a vote, anyone who bets on him is literally donating money to the bookmaker.

Independent Gambling Authority director Robert Chappell said rule 103 of the Bookmakers Liscensing Rules states money must not be accepted on an outcome if there is no possibilty of a return.

"We wouldnt be too concerned unless the organisation has held money [on Pickett] since they realised he had no chance of winning" he said.

......

Thornton Sportsbet did not return calls from the Advertiser yesterday

This was the report in the press today
I would imagine the crew at Thornton Sports would be embarrased about this article.

I'm please to announce that 107.9 LIFE FM will be providing Live Radio Coverage of the entire 2008 Magarey Medal count.

On Thursday Night, September 18th 2008 from the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, we will be live on radio (107.9FM) and around the world through a live stream on (http://www.life.on.net).

More details to follow.

Cheers
Phil Herden

Good to hear LifeFM get a bit of a plug on 5aa today  when KG and Thingy eventually told a caller who was complaining about the lack of coverage that the Magarey would be on LifeFM this year.

Just on the LifeFM coverage, details are starting to finalise.

Looks like we are going to air at 8.30pm Thursday Night (SA Time) until approx 10.45 / 11.00pm

The count itself commences just before 9.30pm Thursday Night (SA Time), we should know the winner around 10.10pm

Myself, John Nankivell and the Home Run's Jason Evans will be covering the event.

Outside of FULL & LIVE COVERAGE OF THE COUNT (the most important part)
we will be doing interviews with many of the guests and giving you the best "feel"* of the night as possible.

Will be on 107.9 LIFE FM and going worldwide through www.life.on.net

I'm not entirely sure if I've got this right but I think ABC891 local radio is alos doing a coverage, they're saying "round by round" starting from 7pm.
'PAFC don't want any advantages in the SANFL. It would only take away from any achievements we earned.'
