His real name is Declan McManus. Released his first album "My aim is true" in 1977 on Stiff Records.

Neil Young isnt my era, but from what ive heard his voice is a dead ringer for Kermit the Frog's IMO...

Id be guessing the doof doof in the Boiler Room will be getting much more attention than Mr Young from the usual BDO crowd. Speaking of, arent they building a new pavillion in the show grounds, i wonder if that will be the Boiler Room this year?

its already built. Looking at the features on the New building I think it would be a bit wanky for a bunch of doof doofers pinging on pills with features like these:

1,500 sqm feature Gallery (natural light, timber clad beams, polished concrete floor)
Mezzanine with 3 meeting rooms of 80sqm each

stick to a shed with a laser light show and they won't notice what the f**k the inside of the building looks like

All the sideshow tickets will be released before BDO tickets so they are not snaffled by people just wanting to go and see Neil Young.

Im excited about catching him play but it would be sad to see smaller numbers during the day because the 'older crowd' (i use the term as politley as possible) come later in the arvo just for the main event.

Sidenote;
Greenday and Arctic Monkeys also rumoured.
Bloc Party new album in CD form soon and no tour dates for Aus as yet....a smokey?

I go to the BDO every year, but geez theyve been getting worse the last couple of years.
If not for RATM last year, I wouldnt have gone. (And then you couldnt get anywhere near the pit unless you stood in the D all day  )

I know Neil Young is a legend and all, but not sure I'd imagine him as a BDO act.
Confirmation the BDO is now a full mainstream festival.

If they are going to bring out some 'alternative legends'.
How about: Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, Pop Will Eat Itself, The Hard Ons, Celibate Rifles, DEVO.
The list goes on, at least something that is a bit scary or dangerous.

I would be staggered if Neil Young is the closing act.....

Its not unusual for the BDO to have a couple of 'older' performers (Paul Kelly, Billy Bragg last year). I would have thought Neil Young would have been along similar lines ie either playing a side stage or an afternoon performance on the main stage.

I've also heard that the Arctic Monkeys will be playing at the 2009 BDO.

Considering that Neil young and Eddie Vedder are pretty closely affiliated perhaps Pearl Jam might make an appearance? Also see that the Kings Of Leon will have finished their UK tour by end of December....surely they would be keen on some Aussie sun - well at least thats what i am hoping....

Pearl jam have no plans whats so ever. all doing there own gigs at the moment. Eddie on a solo tour. Agree a good chance they could tour with Neil Young but they dont do too many festivals anymore after what happened 7 years ago in Holland. Pearl Jam did just finish and East coast tour of the USA. Eddie was calling it the Why the **** not tour. Hope they come back soon.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

The Hard Ons played there a few years back, mostly a dedicated crowd came to watch. Fugazi won't play the festival because of their stance on alcohol advertising. DEVO played Splendour this year, can't see them coming back in summer.

Getting locked out of the D has bummed me out over the years. Made it in to see RATM up close, however, the downside was having to stand through Silverchair and Bjork :vom:

Not to mention all those fuggin fences around the bars.
What tha fcks up with that.
Never been a problem before. why'd they have to do it? Just spoilt the vibe of it all somewhat IMO.
