I would think Ablett's 2nd half of the season wasn't as good as his 1st, whereas Buddy has been consistent all year, so it could be close at the end.

I can't see where Harley's performance on the field is any better than some others, he just happens to toss the coin for the team who has the most number of top players.

In and under? I seem to see Harley more as the third man up in marking contests across Geelongs half back line. With Harry Taylor doing well on the bigger forwards Harley gets a bit of freedom and often is the loose man roaming around Geelongs defence.Milburn and Harley get great coverage from Scarlett,Mackie,Hunt and Taylor.

He probably is the best captain in the AFL,as his is the best team but I am not sure how many will agree with you he is 'in and under' ,more like 'over and above'.

A disingenious post at best by an intellegent poster in Hawker, sour grapes at worst. For me the best captains are Harley for the leadership he provides on and off the field and Sydney's Kirk who sets the example on field better than any other IMO.

In 2006 Geelong had no leadership and it is all very easy to say all he does is toss the coin for the best team. One of the reasons we became the best team with pretty much the same bunch of blokes who couldn't beat Richmond at home in 2006 because they rallied around the leadership group and the players had a good hard look at themselves. If anyone wants to go outside what the team is trying to achieve then they have to look Tom Harley in the eye.

He is the best captain Geelong have had in the many years I have followed the club...perhaps because he actually wanted the job unlike many who went before him in the role.

I hate to admit it, but Harley was a marginal player at Norwood - goodish but not great. He was fortunate to get into an AFL team that was a bit weak at the time, which gave him the chance to develop to his maximum. He is now a good servicable player and a stabilising influence in a team that a few years ago really needed one of those.

It is a credit to him and to those who coached him, and, yes, he has turned out to be a good captain.
