SANFL's Dream Final Fixtures

Postby Wedgie » Sun Sep 07, 2008 8:10 pm

I mentioned this about a month ago but it has to be the SANFL's dream finals.

Glenelg, Sturt, Central, Port and Norwood.

Surely we should expect record finals attendances in 2008?

Even as a supporter of a club not involved Im genuinely excited.

For years we've told the SANFL that Footy Park is still a relevent place to have GFs and if we had a decent combination in a GF it would prove it, surely this is the year we'll prove it?

It's going to be a great finals series, I can't wait for next week, what a great way to kick it off, Port v Norwood and Sturt v Centrals, surely we shoul have 20k at least for this combination?

Can't wait!

15-18,000 would be acceptable.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Why not? I blame them for world hunger and the melting of the ice caps too.

You don't know that for a fact locky, I think if the weather is good, that is a very realistic chance. Especially considering Port and Norwood, 2 traditional rivals, are kicking proceeding off, followed by Sturt and Central, should be very very close to the 20,000 mark I would think...

The other thing to consider is that most other local and country competitions would have played their finals on the Saturday, the day before, and of course their is now no Adelaide based AFL sides playing finals so there is no excuse. I also think their will be a good contingency of neutral supporters who will head along, especially Glenelg fans, keen to see who they'll play in the 2nd Semi the week after...

18,000 - 20,000 is my prediction and would be wonderful for the local comp, make sure you get along to Adelaide Oval...

Agreed Big Phil, it's a big chance if handled right.
Mind you if the SANFL had handled Round 23 right we would have had 5000 more people at games in yesterday's beautiful weather as opposed to just family and friends being there today.
Can someone point out the www.bom.org site to the SANFL before they make any more Einstein like manouvers please?

... or at least point them towards a calendar, with Father's Day marked in and clearly circled. Was the crowd any bigger today due to the injection of fairweather Crows fans? I think not.

I have never been as wet as Ive been today, WTF were the SANFL thinking?
I counted 700 people at Richmond today and that was before it rained, would have got 1500 yesterday.
I hope they're just more interested in attending the Crows game as noone could make that sort of decision based on logic unless they have absolutely NO idea.

15k this week. And the best thing, either Norwood or Port will be there the second week too meaning crowds will be extremely healthy.

And hooray for no Eagles!

Elimination / Qualifying Final Crowds @ Adelaide Oval

2007 @ Adelaide 11,487 (dh)

2006 @ Adelaide 11,222 (dh)

2005 @ Adelaide 9.434 (dh)

2004 @ Adelaide 11,842 (dh)

Depending on weather 15,000 would be a reasonable target for week 1, hopefully 18,000 for week 2.

with the return of the 'big 4' & the central army i'd suggest all finals will be well above average & i'm tipping that this week given a nice day there will be 20,000-25,000
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

DOH!
Would love to be there, but reckon I might head to Sydney for the Raiders v Sharks game, looking like it might be next Saturday night which will tie in beautifully with my timetable.

I agree, anything under 20k would be disappointing, all we need is the weather to play ball and there will be no excuses...
