Not the best of wins. Centrals barely got out of first gear and their defense was quite sloppy at times. Had Centrals been playing anyone else, they probably would have lost.

Once again Centrals gave away an unacceptable amount of undisciplined frees. This has to be addressed because Sturt and Glenelg will make them pay for these.

As bad as Centrals were, West were worse.

Highlight of the day would be the jumpy PA guy who started playing Centrals club song with a few mins left in the last quarter!
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

I think it's time to have some understanding for the tough job the umpires have and today we saw a perfect example.

Poor umpire Tony Dey. No doubt out to impress and then saddled with the worst run of luck an umpire could have. No matter how hard he tried to be the officiating umpire when the free should obviously been awarded to West Adelaide, it just never seemed to happen. It was lucky for the other 2 umpires that they weren't saddled with the same problem, but for poor Tony, no matter how hard he looked for a West free, in all conscience he just couldn't find one. Now, the meaner observers could perhaps have thought that several of the line-ball decisions might well have gone Westies' way, but you have to give credit to Tony - he stuck to his principles and wouldn't be swayed and that sort of courage is what we want to see in an umpire and I, for one, applaud it. As a West supporter I was disappointed to have a few celebrations for goals cut short by Tony's courageous decisions, but you had to bow to his steadfastness.

I marvelled at the numerous 25 and 50 metre penalties he handed out and admired his ability to differentiate between seemingly similar contests to penalise West when all and sundry thought they might be rewarded.

What a relief I felt for him when he found an inside 50 free for the Bloods when the game was all but over.

My admiration is even higher when I consider that his performance at Westies games is always the same.

So thank you, Tony, for adding so much to my day. My team wasn't good enough on the day, but at least there was something to celebrate :D

Agreed R&B the umpiring again was certainly frustrating. McCormick beat Thomas easily and i think Ezard on Slade was a good contest. However, Williams and Dutschke killed us and we allowed the likes of Callinan, Gowans and O'Sullivan to be goal side far too easily in our defensive stoppages. I though Anderson played his best game for us this year and Piasente was good again. I was disappointed with our last quarter as i thought we were in with a shot at 3 quarter time being only 4 goals down and coming home with the breeze.

As for our younger guys Jono Beech showed a little bit but still has a fair way to go at league level. Sukkel i thought looked way out of his depth. Matty Martin was fantastic on Cowan, Silverlock was quiet and Slattery was ok.

Haynes is a pretty good player but why would he want to waste his talent in front of approx 500 Westies fans every week and be on the end of many losses.

Because he got paid sh!tloads to do it that is one reason i can think of  . Another would be that no one else puts up with his attitude the way we were silly enough to when he was here. A super player but unfortunately for him it isn't all about him.

Lol. Blame the umpires. Do you actually understand the game? You weren't one of the two childish guys who decided to yell abuse at the umpires at the end of the game were you? The umpires were fine. Most of the frees they paid I expected them to pay and when I didn't expect them to pay it they didn't. And that goes both ways. Perhaps you should blame the players who give away frees by tackling around the neck. Or better yet, get your players to be the ones who get the ball first.

Well maybe you should be an umpire then Graham! You obviously read the game much better than i did. No doubt when there was an arm around the neck and when players were first to the ball they deserved a free kick. How about the 5 first half free kicks that we gave away inside 25 metres from our goal were they all there.... no i don't think they all were. In the last quarter when Caire was grabbed around the neck and not awarded a free because the umpire was shielding the sun from his eyes and missed it. What do you think he should've done? Maybe been in a position that the sun would not be an issue how is that for an idea.

I am sorry but the umpiring display that i saw on Sunday was not up to SANFL league standard and yes we did receive frees we shouldn't have but the ones that were missed were more crucial but not match defining.

When it comes to lacking a sense of humour, you never disappoint, graham. If you'd read our comments, you'd realise that no-one is suggesting for a minute that the umpires affected the result. Also, for the record, no, I didn't yell at the umpires, I restricted myself to the offering you can read above. That was targeted for a bit of a laugh, but I should have labelled it a "Grahaml-free zone'.

I have to say, however, that I'm impressed that the umpires mostly agreed with your interpretations all day. They must have been good, then.
