Nothing wrong with taking your father to the game on Sunday. And not everyone goes to the footy to get drunk, either.

Too true spelly. As a paid up member of Eagles & Crows I'd like someone to try and prove that my passion for my sanfl club is any less because I also happen to shell out some hard earned to see both leagues.
Planning on taking the old man to alberton.

Impossible when they live in the country, yet possible if it was on a Saturday ironically.

WTF happened to the ABC covering the Glenelg game? Which ABC exect is a Eagles fan, 3 weeks in a row

Not all fathers are footy fans or support the same team you do....ironically my old man is a Norwood fan but we have my wifes family coming over also...

Centrals would be loving this, if they beat Sturt they play them again with the edge over them, if they lose they play Glenelg who have one less days recovery...

Because the father I refer to lives so far away that he requires Sunday's to travel back home.

All I and most others ask for is for the SANFL to stick with their scheduling that they produce late the previous year and that doesn't go for just this weekend but other debacles this year where games have been moved between venues and days.
Set it and leave it alone so people can plan their year around the footy.

The change of day personally suits me but Im still very annoyed the SANFL do things like this, I know dozens of people that wont be going this weekend because of this latest stuff up. You could put a 3 year old in charge of the SANFL scheduling and you'd get 50k more a year. It's not rocket science.

Christ. There's more wingers in here than a women's rights gathering.

Thank God ABC are covering Port v Eagles, what a cracker it will be ... essentially a cut throat elimination final.

And Sunday footy on father's day - wicked! What else would you do with your dad, go to the ballet or that playhouse at glenelg?

C'mon people, get back to winging about umpires or something more valid.

The SANFL make it clear as day that Round 23 fixtures is "subject to change", so essentially they haven't programmed/confirmed anything until now.

BZZZT, wrong.
I have an official SANFL 2008 Fixture in my hot little hand and have the last 2 before it also.
The 2008 SANFL fixture does not distinguish Round 23 any differently from the rest of the season, it clearly has:

Round 23
Saturday 6 Septemgber 2:00pm
Glenelg v Norwood CR
Port v Eagles A
West v North B
Saturday 6 September 6:30pm
Central v Sturt HH
South Bye

At the far left and bottom of the fixture it states:
Note - Fixture details correct at time of publication. Any changes to this fixture can be found at http://www.sanfl.com.au

Nowhere in the entire document does it state even unclearly let alone clearly that Round 23 is subject to change

Ah well, the one in the budget says 'subject to change'. Thought that'd be as close to official as you get given it's the official publication of the SANFL.

I cant believe the whingeing in here, for me the change is great, i can work at the crows game, watch that without paying  then get to go to the eagles on sunday, and all those people that like going to the crows and the sanfl now get the chance to.

i am not a father but i would think a good early lunch or even a bbq at the footy with the kids would be a great day out

I think, to solve the issue next year, so as to let everyone know well in advance, is to have all Round 23 matches on the Sunday. Because it seems that the Crows are pencilled in for the Saturday afternoon slot if they makes the finals, no matter where they finish - 2006 (1st), 2007 (8th), 2008 (5th).

Or perhaps use a little common sense and possibly expect there might be a fixture change. It's not the first time this has happened...

If the Crows had drawn St Kilda then they would have played on Sunday as the Saints needed a 7 day break. Whoever they played was going to be the Sunday game this week. The last few years are just a coincidence.

Having said that, you can count on only 1 of the 4 finals being on the Sunday so the SANFL round 23 scheduled on Sunday would be less likely to need to change. So your idea sounds good to me.

It's unfortunate it's Fathers Day but remember one of the great SANFL games was North v Port on Father's day 1989 - over 30,000 people went.

wrong my friend, yesterday even before the players had got back into the rooms a glenelg official told a group of us the game will be sunday if the crows play on saturday afternoon, unfortuneately people will go to an afl game (final) or stay home & watch it in preference to going to a state league game, it is a business decision & also for all the teams playing in the finals they can get into the routine of playing on sunday as 1 week later as the finals start they are played also on sundays
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway
