99.9% certain it was Barrie Robran, 1970.

No its not. Its the award for the AFL not the VFL. The VFL has the Liston Medal.

There are some people on this site who are very bitter that the VFL made the decision to go national and become more highly regarded than the SANFL (who turned their back on the national comp rather than being a part of it.)

Like it or not the AFL is an expansion of the VFL, so we can't just come in (late) and tell them to abandon their history.

Don't blame C9, blame the SANFL. Why the hell would you have the MM after w2 of the finals?

So you think C9 should show the MM which rates poorly and has no interest outside of SANFL diehards or show the Pelim Final AFL Footy Show? Its a no brainer.

Blame the SANFL.

For so long the SANFL had it on the Tuesday after the 1st week of the finals. Which would equate to the Tuesday before the AFL Preliminary. Then as you know, the SANFL decided to do a bit of cheap advertising by promoting the Grand Final by putting the Magarey on the Thursday before the Grand Final.

Thursday? Just three days before the Grand Final? That's one wtf moment.

The second is now to have it on at the same time as the AFL Footy Show, in the same week as before, but still on a Thursday.

Why not Tuesday? Who made that decision - Channel 9 or the SANFL? Perhaps the SANFL thought that 10 minutes of token coverage would be better than none.

Ahhhhh....No it's not. The Brownlow is the medal given to the VFL B&F. It's just that they moved the goalposts and forgot to tell everybody else.

I don't think so because I can distinctly remember 'Phillis' being drowned out by cheering after the initials 'D.K. ' were read out in the final round, and that was '69.

Rod Payze at the medal has just said Geof Motley in 1964 was the first year the medal was televised.

That would be correct, I have vague memory of it. Certainly I recall Window winning in 1965 on TV.

I cant believe that Centrals finished 3rd yet only got 65 votes? (4th or 5th best team?)

Ian Callinan missed a large part of the season, that would have had something to do with it.
