I guess it is better those locals who want to spend their money in pokies fund the clubs like Centrals than that the taxpayers, who may not want to give Centrals a cent, are forced to do it by their silly politicians. While I'd be more likely to help fund my footy team through a good local Bistro than a bar and club, I guess you have to sell what your locals will buy - provided it's legal...

Legal yes, ethical no.

Legal yes, ethical no.

I tend to agree with you. I'd ban Pokies.
I just don't think the taxpayers should support SANFL football clubs as the alternative - any government money for sport should go into schools and local sport.

Its better than the machines just being sold to publicans and them becoming even more rich, at least the money Centrals make goes back into the community.
Well done Dogs.

Not sure of this, usually I'd agree, but perhaps in this situation the venue got approved because it was Central Footy Club, hence putting extra pokies into the system that otherwise wouldn't have been approved. Unsure, but I'd be interested in hearing the grounds for the approval and why the initial committee disapproved.
The other thing is how many other clubs will want to follow suit. I don't think Central were in any dire need of the cash, they have just increased the flow. Is this setting a precedent for SANFL clubs to flood the market with pokies? Needing the cash is one thing and I agree I'd rather see clubs rather than pubs get the revenue, but I think the clubs getting fat on that revenue is crossing that ethical line.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
