Who'll be the Coca Cola Star Search winner for the year?

Postby topsywaldron » Mon Aug 25, 2008 11:08 am

Hopefully it'll be Norwood's Josh Donohue. He's kicked nearly thirty goals and has had as big an impact for a young player as I've seen in a long time. He's got great hands, super awareness and his tackling for someone his size is extraordinary.

Who does anyone think will finish second?

Maybe Broadbent from the Eagles could win, he is a real talent but did miss a few games with State Under 18's duties...

Tommy Holmes from the Bays for me, should win it just over James Boyd from South...

Actually I have Topsy and a couple of non Centrals games for that matter. I just think Holmes and Boyd have been more consistant than Josh and because the Glenelg and South boys play on the ball, I think they will get a little more notice than Donohue. I think Josh is a talented player and think he'll be right up there so if it makes you happy...

1st - Tom Holmes (Glenelg)
2nd - James Boyd (South)
3rd - Josh Donohue (Norwood)

Weren't you at the game Saturday? JD spent a lot of time playing on-ball.

To nearly be in the top ten goal kickers playing off a flank and on ball is almost Callinan-esque IMHO. A shame for him he's not on Ian's $80K!

I think Jared Petrenko will be high up the pecking order. I also would rate Donohue ahead of Holmes and Boyd. Boyd runs around getting cheap kicks all day and doesn't hurt you. Holmes, well he is very good, but i just think Donohue has had more of an impact on a more consistent basis from what i have seen of them both this year.

Ok i was unsure of his eligibility due to his promotion to the senior list. Although he still isn't a full time crow, he goes back to the rookie list after the season has finished doesn't he?

I'd love to say Tommy Holmes, but I reakon Boyd just shades him with a slightly better level of consistency over the season...

No doubt someone will have some stats somewhere that indicate Holmes has better consistency than Boyd, but I think Boyd has been slightly better over the year.

To Tommy Holmes, followed by Josh Donohue in 3rd spot

I'd really like Martin or Thring to win it as they are both quality people.

But.. Broadbent's an exceptionally talented player.

Good luck to everyone concerned.

Boyd
Holmes

Matthew Broadbent, with Hamish Hartlett not far behind. While Hartlett had an interrupted season, that shouldn't affect his chances hopefully. A very open field though.

Boyd will go very very close to winning the B+F down at South. I know I'm biased, but surely this award is his?

He has also polled quite a number of votes in the advertiser's comp, up in the top 1/2 dozen players i think.
