Finals Combinations 2008

Postby spell_check » Sun Aug 24, 2008 7:52 pm

North Adelaide would need the following to happen to make the 5:
Win by a big margin over West Adelaide
Eagles to win against Port only, but not enough to tip North out on %
Glenelg to beat Port by a big margin

So, here is the combinations for the other four clubs, assuming % remains the same:

This is what I came up with

- Norwood, Port & Eagles maintain destiny in own hands
(ie win remaining games AND by big enough margin to ensure superior percentage)

- North no longer control own destiny

- Final five could be determined in Rd 22 if
- Norwood defeat Eagles AND Port defeat Glenelg
(Eagles and North eliminated)

- Norwood
- would qualify in Rd 22 if Norwood defeat Eagles

- Port
- would qualify in Rd 22 if Port defeats Glenelg AND Norwood defeat Eagles
- or would qualify with win over Eagles in Rd 23
- if won just one of last two games would at worst be tied for 5th and it would come down to percentage

- North
- would be eliminated in Rd 22 if
- Eagles defeat Norwood
OR
- Port defeat Glenelg
- to play finals the following needs to occur
- 1) Rd 22 Norwood d Eagles
AND 2) Rd 22 Glenelg d Port
AND 3) Rd 23 North d West
AND 4) Rd 23 Eagles d Port
AND 5) North makes up current percentage gap on Port
AND 6) North makes up current percentage gap on Eagles.

- Eagles
- would be eliminated in Rd 22 if Norwood defeat Eagles AND Port defeat Glenelg
- If win last two games v Norwood & Port, at worst they will be TIED for 5th and it will come down to percentage

The teams listed below the numbers are the winners for each match, then the ladders below make up each combination.

My thoughts:

Sturt 32 points
Glenelg 30 points
Central 26 points
Port 22 points
Norwood 21 points

makes for a totally enthralling Finals' Series.

Can't argue with that...

My only comeback is that us Bays fan would hope that the ball was with Feasty for a shot after the siren to win the GF...

And don't forget the possiblity of a draw. If the Eagles defeat Norwood, Glenelg defeat both Port and Norwood and then the Eagles and Port draw it would come down to percentage between the 3 of them. Which I feel would work against Norwood.
