SANFL website boasts international fanbase

Postby peterg » Fri Aug 15, 2008 11:40 am

The article here --> http://www.sanfl.com.au/news/sanfl_news/452/ boasts that the SANFL website is the site where thousands around the world get their SANFL news

Meh! If you were a South Australian expat looking to follow your favourite team, you certainly wouldn't go to the AFL website, or, God forbid, www.news.com.au/adelaidenow

But the article inspired me - on another site to which I contribute, an expat in Mexico wondered how many expats tuned in each week to follow the game ... which got me wondering the same thing about safooty.net.

I notice JAS tunes in from Scotland, but on an average Saturday afternoon, how many expats follow their favourite SANFL team through the live scores thread, listening to RPH or Life, or maybe even streaming the ABC broadcast, and from where to they tune in?
But yes, it was a pretty pointless comment wasn't it?!

There are at least 6 forumites on here and/or the Legs forum that I can think of who I believe tune in from the UK, 3 in USA, 1 in Japan and possibly 1 in South America...I think they're all expats apart from me.

Wouldn't say I get my SANFL news from the SANFL website though. All their news pages are just copied from the Tiser site as far as I can tell. I get my footy fix from (in order)

1. NFC website and forum
2. SAFooty
3. LifeFM and RPH for the game commentaries
4. 5aa...yeh I know but they do mention SANFL occasionally and 'Where are they now' can be good.
5. Tiser and Messenger
6. SANFL website
7. AFL website for occasional articles and news about Norwood boys in the AFL.
8. Any other links etc posted by other forumites.

I don't think the ABC coverage is available online outside Australia.

Regards
JAS

I usually read doubleblue.org on match days. But I have been working on Saturdays this year so I have missed out on most games.
From DB.org I know we have one user from Singapore, and one from Amsterdam. Then there's Jimmy but etiquette forbids me from referring directly to his location, but the inhabitants like to CHEW PORK (hot dogs) I am led to believe. I am in the land of the rising sun. There are a couple of other ex-pats that have logged on but I forget their details.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

I only lived in Oz JAS. Born in the UK.

On the Roost we have 3 IIRC from the UK, 1 from the USA, 1 from Japan (if he is still living there) and usually one or two on world tours who log in from various countries depending on where they are that week. We also have at least 4 or 5 interstate.
