Para District Cricket Association 2008/2009
After all the talk, there was minimal changes put in for the upcoming season, still an 8 team competition per grade, any thoughts?

Re: Para District Cricket Association 2008/2009
Not sure about Salisbury West's lower grades being that high. Most likely we'll just take it (unlike other clubs have over the years unfortunately) but several of the key players in the C and D grade sides from last season are likely to pull the pin and end on a winning note. Given both were far from dominant in prior seasons in lower grades I don't think it unfair to leave the sides in grades 4 and 6 for another season and see how they go. A GF appearance by either would be then enough reason to put that team up into 3 or 5.

Unfortunately for you guys, your club's dominance in the competition warrants promotion, a lot of the other envious clubs wouldn't support your request to stay down.

Some clubs have got exemptions before though norm, I've seen Salisbury North & Willaston both drop down to div.4 from div.1 with the ok from the PDCA. Central District were allowed to not field a team in div.1 yet play in a lower division 2 years ago.

Yeah, it was, they had to "alledgedly" supply a list of players that had left and were NOT meant to play at all for the year for them, something that did cause contraversy, I'd say your on the money then.

Re: Para District Cricket Association 2008/2009
Word is we might lose players, but I know clubs have said they will have players leave to avoid promotion and then those players end up playing anyway. Wasn't as farcical as the club that folded, and then a "new" club arrived at the same location with the same players immediately.
No problem with accepting the policy if it weren't for the fact other clubs have had a long history of this sort of thing.
Anyway, whatever happens, happens. Hopefully if we do get graded like that then we at least remain competetive across those grades. Fought out grade 4 a few years ago in a C grade team and it was a miserable year. Guys played that season out who were among the last picked in D grade the year before.

At least you guys have such a strong junior set-up that would see you continue to blood the young fella's up and remain competetive. We've been forced to play under 13's in our D grade previously, providing the opposition just bowl at the stumps and not at the head, they gain a fair bit out of it.

Re: Para District Cricket Association 2008/2009
There is a chance that the PDCA is going to have an under 17 comp on Sundays this season, if there is enough interest, are there any thoughts on this. As long as it is around a 10 o'clock start I think it will be a winner.

i personally dont think it will work, the under 16 comp had limited teams and on a sunday, no thanks give the clubs a break as it is our club is operating 5 days a week its getting hard to get volunteers and at the u/17 level even less parents are there to help/support. Maybe get rid of the under 16 and have 15s and 17s and continue to play them on sat.

I think getting under 17's to play on a saturday morning would be a non-event, especially at 8:30am. I do agree that under 16's is extremely hard for clubs to get players, especially when we have under 15's, the natural progression is a 2 year gap per grade.
It would need to be ALL one-dayers or something attractive to get the players out there. It's just a bit crap that some clubs feel the need to stack a very low grade with very fast bowlers and scare the crap out of kids that are still playing juniors or are just that little bit too old. There needs to be somewhere they can fit in and enjoy the game.
