Whatever "style" of play you think James, and his brother Chris, Gowans play, it has been good enough for them to win 6 x Premiership medals each, Jack Oatey's, B & F's, Bobb Quinn medals and 8 wonderful years of service to our great club and the SANFL. Not bad hey

The best part is that despite all that, James will be best remembered/ridiculed for this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3YtzlK_y24

I had forgotten already. Til now

If true, and innocent until found guilty by youtube, that'd be disappointing from James. Eye gouging isn't something to be proud of IMHO.

It definitely happened...I assume the umpires didn't see it, and because the ABC didn't highlight it in their coverage, and given the fact that Crane didn't react too strongly about it, that all and sundry deemed it not worth progressing to the Jokebunal.

Matt Westhoff MUST come in. We looked up against it with big men before Havelberg went down.

Not sure Glenelg's forwards are that much bigger. Lawry and Sibenaler are a similar size. I'm worried about the lack of athletecism from them though. I think Hayes will have to take a lot of marks as a loose man for us to really contain Glenelg's forward line. I have big question marks over Glenelg's defense. IMHO Rudolph and Sherwood are good honest players, but I think either (or both perhaps) could be dominated by a forward at any given time (as we saw with Rudolph and Schell earlier on this year). This could in fact suit Luke Cowan, who is exactly the sort of guy to play 10 minutes of blinding footy and then 20 of something that doesn't quite polish up so well.

The big test will be the midfield (as always really). We were smashed in the middle at HHO earlier this year in the firt quarter, and with a few guys missing, not to mention some others surely look like they're carrying a niggle or two that would normally see them rested if possible, guys like Thomas, O'Sullivan and Dutschke et al need to have a big influence for 4 quarters. Something Chad has managed of late, but not many others. Griffin will make a huge difference. Should negate Cranston at the stoppages and would be hoping to expose him around the ground. Buckets needs to lift. Had a ripper against Port, but has done little apart from that and is looking like the MacKenzie of 2003, not the McKenzie of 2007. Too often being exposed in the ruck contests and not making much of a contribution around the ground.

I think the dogs are playing WAY below their best. Our depth is a serious worry, and with Schell, Havelberg, Slattery, Leigh Westhoff, James Gowans, Chris Gowans and Ian Callinan all missing, newly returned from injury and/or carrying something some of the "second tier" players need to step up a little perhaps. Everyone knows we've been doing a lot of hard work on the track, so we will start to get more run earlier in the games as we lighten off, but skills and decision making also need to improve.

Beating the dogs at HHO at this stage of the season is a tough, tough ask. And beating Glenelg at all this season is tough. Whichever team wins will take a massive dose of confidence into the finals when these two sides are quite likely to meet at some stage. On form Glenelg are ahead, and should win the game. But the best parts of being a dogs fan at the moment is knowing that if we play our best, we can beat anyone along with the knowledge that finals are OUR playground and we are always going to be in with a chance when September/October comes around this season.

As good as Rudolph and Sherwood are, they can have players kick bags on them...ala Chambers, Warren, Hargreaves, Waterhouse (in recent seasons)...

I think the midfield supply will determine the outcome of this game...against Sturt, I felt the Dogs let the Double Blues midfielders get far too much footy all over the ground, and when you have quality midfielders directing the footy inside 50, the quality of their delivery is going to be good if not placed under enough pressure.

Bays have a massive task ahead of them this week...I hope we're switched on and the game is an absolute cracker.

\iSorry guys, a bit of an update to the Doggies line up...

CENTRAL DISTRICT FOOTBALL CLUB LEAGUE SIDE
SATURDAY NIGHT, 6:30pm 2nd AUGUST 2008 Vs GLENELG @ HAMRA HOMES OVAL, ELIZABETH

Full Forward:Luke McCabe, Luke Cowan, Ian Callinan
Half Forwards: Chad O'Sullivan, Heath Lawry, Chris Gowans
Centre Line: Elijah Ware, James Gowans, Adam Switala
Half Backs: Trent Goodrem, Jason Mackenzie, Brayden O'Hara
Full Backs: Andrew Hayes, Yves Sibenaler, Richard Cochrane

Rucks: Jonathon Griffin, Paul Thomas, Matthew Slade

Interchange: Scott Dutschke, Louis Hadden, Matthew Westhoff

Ryan Williams has been taken out of the Dogs line up to possibly make his AFL debut with The Power. I hope they don't take him over to Melbourne only to be the travelling emergency but I guess it happens pretty much every week to someone, I just don't like the idea of a player not havong a run at all, but good luck to Willow if he does get an opportunity at AFL level. Yet another blow to the Doggies line up with Dan Havelberg also out for possibly the rest of the season due to his ankle injury. Brayden O'Hara slots into the half back flank and Louis Hadden makes the cut in the final 21 after a BOG effort in the reserves last week.

Now I think I'm leaning towards the Bays by 7 or 8 goals, but again, that's with my head, not my heart and of course, I will be stoked if I'm proved wrong and we pinch an unlikely win...

Then Crane must have thought it was an accident, because surely if you'd been deliberately eye gouged, you would react accordingly. I know I would and have.
Either he thought it was an accident ooooooorrrr Big Bad James and Chris have now cowed the opposition sooooo completely that they don't react to any of their actions any more.....

No one will win this game by that margin...it should be relatively close...hopefully tipping slightly in our favour.

Sugars in. Sellar also been added to the 23. Pretty much the standard Glenelg side minus Bodey(Horan holds his spot). Bench should be Button, Hinge and one of C Kane or Willoughby.

Think its something like

Sug Rudolph Murph
Mules Forrey Panoz
Kane Mouse Holmes
Roar Grima Horan
Block Dogga Macca

Cranno Ty Fish

Sells, Willoughby Butts C Kane Hinge

Any chance we could have that with their real names? Funnily enough not everyone knows who the hell you are talking about with half that side.

and any chance you (joelie) could present it with the forwards at the TOP, in the SANFL convention, instead of the inferior Victorian manner of listing the backs on top?

Abbreviations and nicknames I can handle, but bowing to the cultural imperialism of the AFL I cannot!

And you know this for a fact that we failed to impress Todd do you joelie... ???

I think you'll find it was the money and job package that was the deciding factor, our clubs set up, facilities, personell and history is more than impressive if I don't say so myslef...

This Justin fella you speak of, is he the one who has struggled in recent weeks, 3 touches in his last outing if I am correct ? Out of form, but we will be wary of him this week... :?
