Clayton had his chance on an AFL list, at least 2 years and did nothing, Callinan had his chances too, Roos went for Matty Campbell over him though and you cant knock that decision..

It's hard to say who is the best player in the SANFL. Would be from this lot IMO: Paul Thomas, Jeremy Clayton, Mark McKenzie, Daniel Schell, James Allan, Brett Backwell.

I'd like to see the likes of Bode, Grima and Torney play at least a couple of seasons of SANFL before rating them in this category.

Clayton was given 2 years. In that time he won 2 VFL best and fairests and had the highest votes in the Liston Medal but was ineligible. Hardly 'doing nothing' so to speak.

Yeah, he got 8 games, with minimal gametime and spent most of that gametime in a forward pocket, kicking 6 goals.

Pity he ended up in hospital when he did, otherwise he'd be running around in a Richmond jumper.

Yeah, Ziggy was a bit tongue-in-cheek. Maybe replace him with either T Grima or D Havelberg.

Only the top 40 AH? I thought you could've gone through and name, in order, every registered SANFL player...

The standouts for me in the SANFL are:

Ben Mules
Brett Backwell
Adam Fisher
Sam Rudolph
Trevor Cranston
Brant Chambers
Ben Nelson
Jade Sheedy
Luke Crane
James Allan
Heath Younie
Clint Alleway
Jeremy Clayton
Mark McKenzie
Leigh Treeby
Luke Powell
Luke Jarrod
Justin Cicollella
James Gowans
Chris Gowans
Ian Callinan
Paul Thomas
James Gallagher
Mark Passador

Of this list, I think the best five players are Brett Backwell, James Allan, Jeremy Clayton, James Gallagher and Brant Chambers.

Depends on the criteria if it's over time I'd say Jade Sheedy.
If it's on current form, which is always dubious, I'd say James Allan, Jeremy Clayton, Jade Sheedy, Luke Crane, Brett Backwell, Brant Chambers, Luke Crane, Ian Callinan, Paul Thomas and Mark McKenzie for the times he's carved us up.
As a Blues supporter I'd say out of those to pick 3, in no order James Allan, Jade Sheedy and Brant Chambers. I say that because Chambers and Sheeds have done it consistently over time and I think Allen is slightly ahead of Craney this year and they are the two most explosive players in the comp. Deepest apologies to Brett Backwell for his exceptional endevour and J Clayton for being a thorough hard nut.
The question we should add to this topic is which one of your choices would you want in your team? I'd probably go Allan or J.Clayton.

Peter Fiacchi? I'm not sure, he's quite in the elite group in the SANFL. Good player, but probably a level down.

I reckon he is underrated... Hard, tough at it and is a fairly consistant performer who always gives 110%. Better than Justin Cicollella and Luke Jarrad IMO

I've got Passador on my list. Of your extra suggestions, I think the only ones I'd put in the TOP bracket of players is Schell and Whiteman. The others are all players that are hit and miss, inconsistent with their form, and not in the best EVERY week without fail.

Interesting debate this...because we all see footy differently.

Jeremy Clayton for me. As much as i hate him he is the most damaging footballer in the comp by a long way.
