And personally, regarding player rapport or whatever, my only real concern has been the recruitment, because I am not really in the know like a few other Eagle fans on here seem to be. There are a number of good players in the side, but the problem is that there are too many of one type (key forwards) and not enough of other areas. This is amazing considering heading into 2006, that was the main concern - not enough key forwards. I still remember that very well. Just Passador was really the tall key forward option at the time. Grocke and Oakley were recruited to fill that gap - Grocke has been an excellent pick up, while Oakley just vanished after kicking 5 in Round 1 2006. For the rest of the year it was just Passador and Grocke. Inkster and Westbrook were the two other players to kick 30+ goals in that golden year, but were not really the key forward type. Rather, the midfielder/half forward.

Then, last year, Schwarze was recruited as a backman. Possibly to eventually replace someone like Steven Hall, who only played the first match before retiring at the end of the year. But as it turned out, Schwarze was more suited to the forward role and ended up as the club leading goalkicker. Salter was being groomed as a backman, but was also more effective as a key forward, who filled in with Passador last year when he was out on the middle of the year. Then later in the year, when McGregor started to fall out of favour with the Crows, he was down forward too. Today for example, his greatest impact was in the forward line in the last quarter. Add Bernie Vince into that equation at the end of last year, and it resulted in Passador spending more time in the Reserves than he should have.

This year, Grocke, Passador, Schwarze, Salter, McGregor and Hentschel have all been fighting for forward spots, because they all seem to be the most suited to the forward line. However, have a look over the past two years who other clubs have picked up as midfielders - Callinan and Slattery to Central; Allan, Archard and Clarke to North; McGlone to Sturt; and then you got Ben Kane to compliment an already ominous midfield.

Then you have a look at our midfield depth since Cica and Colville has had more time spent injured than playing. And that's what a fair portion of the problem is at in my view. Like I said, I can't comment on player rapport or the "message getting through" from the coach, because I don't really know the exact situation.

I think you mean Vinnie Rugolo Spell check and not Passador.
Yesterday still highlighted the same problem with the Eagles going forward .Go in slow and kick it to Passador he can not out mark 3 Westies backmen.Begs the question where are the three eagles players who should be on THEIR MEN.
Take the ball in quick one on one Passador was beating his backman.
Positive signs up forward a small forward HALL kicking four goals.
Last quarter kenny mac went up forward and kicked 3 goals which helped seal the game .Now Kenny was given as a best player he did a couple of bloopers if you like (as did a few other eagles players) how bad is Willits kenny towelled him up .
Interesting to note the Eagles rotating on ballers off the bench very quick changes being made very often .I noticed this sitting near the interchange bench instead of sitting in the stand. Some good comments coming from the bench and I found them telling dobber not to lead when he went forward funny .As he got the ball first forward entry in when he got to the goal square.

And yes you are correct about all those recruits we are shocking at recruiting !!

I would narrow that done to pre 2006 .since 2006 our recruiting has not been as good just look at Biagi and Mackie.

The forward line lacks a mid sized target - Inkster and Westbrook in 2006 were so important. Symmons at his best is so important.

It's easy to say McGregor up there with Passador is the answer after yesterday's last quarter, but that set up (4 tall forwards) has been tried this year and hasn't worked and by taking McGregor away from CHB is robbing Peter to pay Paul. What definitely doesn't work is bombing long to Passador one out. That will especially not work against Sturt, who have adopted the Central style of play with pushing numbers back. If we go with the same forward set up as the first half yesterday we will get murdered next weekend.

To me, Treeby has been a bit down in the last few weeks. He seems he is carrying some injury. I would use him as a forward target with Passador. His defensive pressure is excellent, he has a strong mark, he has crumbing ability and he is a proven goal kicker. If it doesn't work, he can go back on the ball and we try something else.

Salter to play around 50 and inside and Grocke/Staple leading up.

FF: Treeby Passador Hall
HF: Klun Salter Grocke (or Staple if Grocke is injured)

Very good point Aerie .i believe kenny mac only worked as Grocke was off the field .
Treeby kicked 3 goals for the state earlier this year very good option Aerie but we need to find a replacement for Treeby in the midfiled /wing if we use him up forward.

Yes, Rugolo it was, but he isn't all that tall, yet he was the leading goalkicker for 2005!

True but he played like a tall forward .If you watched how he played in the seconds last year he played like a leading tall forward. He seemed to heavy (if that's the right word ) to play that crumbing small forward type .
And if he stayed one more year he would starring in that forward line perhaps

Anyone can beat West, even South.

My position has not changed... Fuller must go & where are the Board Members for comment on the FUTURE direction of the club???

Have to agree bring in Andrew Rogers to take over the helm.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Moronic!! grrrr  .
Coaches who consistantly get their teams up for finals appearnces and Grand finals should have some credits in the bank. I reckon if Ron is still your coach next year the Eagles will feature in the finals again. Withe players like Cicca and Colville consistatly injured this year was always going to be difficult.

Now a few weeks back I would have howled down that statement Schimma. But in the last month Andrew has IMHO out coached RON.
But HOLDEN 78 will tell you Andrew is leaving at the end of the year.
Funny the Seconds play a better style than the league . And that was before Schwarze and Salter played in the twos.
And I agree with LEH!!
