One thing is for sure, Central will not win if Sturt get infront by any more than four goals through out the day. We definatly can't start slow again this week but im gonna tip the Dogs by 17

Sturt to win this one by 3 goals in a tough encounter @ Unley !!!

As Joker said, sturt will lose Fabian Deluca to the Power but get the unlucky Adam Thomson back from Port...

Matty Westhoff is only in the squad, surely wont make his AFL debut this week...

Made his League debut for Centrals at th start of the year and kicked 3, looking impressive. Then missed 6 or 7 weeks of footy with foot stress fractures but has been finding form in the reserves over the last 3 or 4 weeks. Will be a chance to get into the Dogs league side this week.

Crows did us a favour not taking Jon Griffin (even though they ommitted Brad Moran) so not only does Griff now qualify for finals, he will be a big plus against a somewhat depleted Sturt rucking brigade with Deluca going up to tackle Freo's big Aaron Sindilands...

Im stoked Adam Thomson is back and im not unhappy that Fabs has gone to the power as young Kouta just keeps gettin better and better !!!

Kouta battled very well against Lade and Parry 2 weeks ago against South all by himself ( No Feast or Deluca that day ) so we should have no fears about him going in to Saturday with Feater to back him up !!!
It is what it is !!!

Matty Westhoff in Port's squad? Is this some kind of joke? Whole new meaning of the term 'tanking'.

Can't believe Sturt get Thomson back again. Port obviously don't have him in their long term plans.

I too was suprised to hear Matty Westhoff was named in the Power SQUAD of 25 for the weekend NFC, especially considering he has played reserves footy for the Dogs for the last 4 weeks or so.But to carry on and say it is a joke is a bit over the top don't you think ??? And your other point about tanking is void one would think when Chocco actually came out a few weeks ago conceding finals were gone and they would look to blood some kids...

Matty being named in the squad would be more of a confidence boost for the young fella than anything and might just be a suttle hint from the Power heirachy to Centrals that they think he should be playing in the league side. I have no doubt that Matty would be seriosuly considered for selection this week anyway, because his form in the 2's has been progressively improving and with Daniel Schell out with injury, he could come in as the extra tall forward. Just a bit of an over reaction on NFC's part to something that wont eventuate in terms of him making the final 22.

I think it is a joke, because it’s so unwarranted. Tanking is one thing, stupidity is another. Cockshell has been playing great footy for about 2 months and yet can’t even make their squad of 25. And yet here’s Matt Westhoff, who’s played 1 league game in his career and has been playing reserves football for a while now who gets in the squad before Adam. Sure it’s a confidence boost for young Matthew but on the other hand what does it do for Adam? Can’t be too good for his confidence I wouldn’t have thought.

Both are similar players, both play as key forwards, one is in great form, the other can’t make his league team. And yet the latter makes the squad…

I see what you are saying mate and it is a fairly valid point but in reality it wont happen because the Power aren't looking to bring in any key forwards. Clubs naming bloody squads of 25 is something that has always peed me off and I just wish they would name the final 22 that are going to play and then if there are any late changes through injury, just announce them through the media...

I slightly disagree with you about Cockshell being in "great" form, he has been good but wouldn't say "great". Had a couple of opportunities to put the Dogs away last weekend and if he can't step up to the plate in an SANFL game how will he go at AFL level. While there is no argument for Matty Westhoff to come in over Adam, there is no point anyway as he will surely not play AFL this week. How many players in the past have been picked to play AFL having played SANFL reserves the week before (excluding examples where a player has played reserves for the bottom placed side with the "host" situation die to their league club having a bye) Cue Spelly for the answer to my question ???

I think Troy Chaplin made his AFL debut after playing the reserves the previous week.

Anyway, back on topic...

Here is the Doggies side for this week...

CENTRAL DISTRICT FOOTBALL CLUB LEAGUE SQUAD
SATURDAY 26 JULY 2008 Vs STURT @ UNLEY OVAL

Full Forward: Jason Mackenzie, Luke Cowan, Ian Callinan
Half Forwards: Chad O'Sullivan, Heath Lawry, Chris Gowans
Centre Line: Elijah Ware, James Gowans, Adam Switala
Half Backs: Trent Goodrem, Daniel Havelberg, Ryan Williams
Full Backs: Andrew Hayes, Yves Sibenaler, Richard Cochrane

Rucks: Jonathon Griffin, Paul Thomas, Matthew Slade

Interchange (from): Scott Dutschke, Luke McCabe, James Moss and Brayden O'Hara.

INS: Chris Gowans, Scott Dutschke
OUTS: Louis Hadden (omitted) 1 more to drop out of squad - likely to be J.Moss

Great to see Chris Gowans back in the side for the first time since Anzac Day against the Roosters. Despite missing close to a month with shoulder and rib concerns, Scott Dutschke will be a handy in with his toughness and aggression around the ball sorely missed of late. IMO, young Crows rookie James Moss might be the unlucky one to miss and will probably end up playing reserves with the unlucky Louis Hadden who was dropped from the side that just pinched the points against The Redlegs last week.

I think having Jon Griffin stay in the side and Fabian Deluca going up to the Power helps us in the middle and while Sturt get Adam Thomson back I think Chris Gowans coming in quells that. I would go pretty close to saying that this weeks side (barring Daniel Schell and maybe Charles Slattery) is close to the best we have had on paper all year. If we are to upset the Double Blues this week, it starts in the middle and if we can limit the amount of supply their on ballers get down to Chambers and Perrie, it will dramatically increase our chances. Yves Sibenaler has to play at his best to minimise Chamo's influence and I think Dan Havelberg will get the job on Perrie.

This is going to be a ripper of a contest and justifiably the broadcast game on the ABC tv this week. I hope that the Doggies can at least play close to 4 quarters of consistant football and can not let Rick MacGowan's side get off the a big start because they are not as likely to let us back in the contest like Norwood did last week. Back on selection, I found it interesting that Matthew Westhoff was named on the extended interchange bench for the Power despite having played reserves for the Dogs over the last month or so since returning from a foot injury. I was a little suprised that he wasn't named in Centrals "squad" this week but is this because he has been told by Chocco he will be making his AFl debut ? I wouldn't think so but who knows these days. Changed my tip as well now, Centrals by 5 points !!!??
