to maximise the crowds this week should ?

Postby bayman » Mon Jul 21, 2008 11:50 pm

should the sturt v central match be transferred to the adelaide oval ? they'll get 5,000 squashed in at unley but if they had it at the adelaide oval they'd get a similar crowd to the one that was at the glenelg v sturt match a few weeks ago & both teams would benefit from a run at the adelaide oval before the finals in a couple of months time
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

I would love for it to be transferred to Adelaide Oval, that's one of my favourite grounds to watch footy at and Unley is one of the least favourites grounds...

I know of at least 4 people that aren't going to the game simply because it's at Unely...

What's happened to Unley Oval? You used to be able to get a lot more people in years ago.

When footy returned to Unley they only got the grand stand side and the northern end back, the rest is fenced off and is a public play ground.

Well if they're not going just because it's at Unley then they're not very loyal supporters. I doubt there would be many more at AO, just look at the crowd figures for the Centrals v Bays game a few weeks ago at Mutt Park. There could well be other costs involved, not that it could be too much more expensive than Sturts' costs at Unley. However I do miss the friday night games at AO. I don't think there's anything wrong with Unley, it's not what it was but there's still good vantage points and still more than enough room for 5000-6000, if it offends anyone so much then, don't go! Harden the f... up! It's starting to sound like the same whine going on about FP.

I think the other reason you'll find they are not going to Unley Oval Cutterman, is because they are all 60+ years old and a bit frail so with the game on the telly and the possibility of average weather, they can sit in the comfort of the lounge with a cup of tea and some scones, enjoying the game on the box. Also, don't you think that supporting the Dogs for over 30 years now is somewhat loyal for these elderly citizens in question ? I know I certainly do...

I do totally agree with you about Friday night games at Adelaide Oval though, a Central v Sturt fixture in this time slot would pull a reasonable crowd with a few city workers likely to wonder down as well after work. There isn't anything too wrong with Unely, it's an oval steeped in tradition but I just don't like some of the restrictive aspects of certain viewing areas, that's all. It's my opinion, nothing more, nothing less and it's certainly not going to stop me attaneding the game, I can assure you that much.

As for the comment of harden the f..... up, not really an apporpriate comment one would think, especially when we are talking about older people not attending when the game is on TV with only a 20 odd minute delay....

I don't think this thread is directed at older people per se. One of the very noticable things about the whopper Bays V Sturt crowd was the large number of young families in attendance. I'm looking forward to this clash at Unley, hopefully a well earned victory, a few beers, some BBQ, after match pressies, a few more beers, and a nice walk home...

In Cutterman's defence, you didnt state that the 4 were elderly.
Thats about as far as I will go defending a Sturt fan. :)

Yeah, I have no problem with that HBT...

I think Cutterman just slightly jumped the gun questioning the creditibilty of certain Doggies fans. I don't have a problem with that at all, just a bit of general discussion mate

No I didn't BP, you just failed to expand on the full story or chose not too, maybe I took the bait. The point I made was very clear, which was, "Well if they're not going JUST BECAUSE it's at Unley then they're not very loyal supporters."
