Well done to the Norwood fan after the game who got stuck into me with insults about how we have not been in the comp as long as Norwood, infact, im told we havent even been in the comp for 100 years, a very sad a disturbing fact, i walked out of the ground with my head hung in shame due to this  some people are just very bitter when they lose, but it usually just makes for abit of amusment at that idiots expense

You forgot to add the same bloke said our club was rubbish because we only had three players on the crows list compared to Norwoods billions (or whatever it is).
He then went on to say why did we care so much that we won because it's a second rate compition anyone, yet he was there cheering for Norwood all day.
Anyway what a win and how good was the look on the Norwood's players faces as they walked down the race at the end of the game.
Full credit to the Dogs supporters who were nothing but positive at the three quarter time huddle.

Should we forgive your schadenfreude, and assume it is your parents' or your teachers' fault?
I assume you'll need this: http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoft ... 05/10.html

The other guys abusiveness was not acceptable either.

If you forgive his schadenfreude we will forgive your pomposity. I blame you for that, not your parents or teachers.

Thank you. That really matters to me.

I presume that is directed at the abusive Norwood supporters and not the Centrals supporter who took glee in his sides victory and the look of disconsolation it brought to the faces of the opposition players.

I got a laugh out of topsy's comment.

Not bad for a feral Norwood suppoter who just had his worse loss of the season (in terms of grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory)

What's so funny about me acknowledging that a player of ours, who you thought had a poor game, was better performed than the number 25 for Norwood

If that comment of mine was funny, than so be it but it was nowhere near as funny as Norwood's pathetic last quarter effort, hey topsy 8)

BTW, how's those grapes of yours coming along mate, still pretty sour no doubt

Don't worry fells. Our friend Psyber read that on his "word of the day" calender and just had to find a use for it, regardless of whether the context made sense or not.

The funny part is he's assuming that your parents or teachers are somehow inferior to his own (presumably without knowing it I might add) thereby committing his own form of schadenfreude mixed with a good dose of prejudice and pomposity.

Just so you fully understand the meaning of the word, Psyber, it means taking delight in others' misfortune and NOT taking delight in one's own fortune as you seem to have got that the wrong way around.

whufc was "taking delight in others' misfortune" when he said "how good was the look on the Norwood's players faces as they walked down the race at the end of the game" - that is it by definition. I highlighted it in the quote so it was obvious...

I offered him the face saving option of blaming his parents or teachers, because I was trying to balance being reasonably kind to him while criticising the mean spirited behaviour itself, but your incomprehension has made that difficult to maintain now. :(

"Schadenfreude" as a word is everywhere at present. It has become a bit of a buzz word just like the outdated "Chardonnay set" was 10 years ago, and I expected most people who could read a newspaper would be aware of it, it's meaning, and be aware of such behaviour in themselves. I thought I was being just a touch "over the top" suggesting he didn't know what it meant, but you obviously looked it up and yet still couldn't apply it in context, so I guess I assumed it was more familiar than it is.

I agree with Psycho on this point.

I think it is poor form for supporters to ridicule opposition players that have just lost to our team.

After all it was only 2 points and if it had happened to us we would have been similarly devastated.

Sometimes I think some supporters forget that we need the other teams (and their supporters) for someone to play against ( and as Stampy so eloquently put it - to be able to continue our tribal wars).
