I'd put my hand up to be involved in that if so :D

I'd be happy to lend a hand as well, especially if there was a free ticket on the end of it...

I'm guessing some clubs have held a dinner on the night previously, if there is to be a count on the net then why not take the count back to the clubs for the fans. Have your main contenders/coaches at the dinner/function at FP and the rest of the players and supporters at the clubs with big screens streaming the count in real time. I'd rather pay $50-$80 to my club and still enjoy the night. The alternative is hanging off the computer or radio at home and my girlfriend calling me a dork!
There's an avenue for a positive to be worked out of this.

I wouldn't be surprised if the decision came from WIN HQ in Wollongong, or was strongly influenced from that direction. Very disappointing.

if that happens to be correct that is disgraceful as surely local stations should have some local content even though in this case they don't do the football for the whole year, soon we'll be watching the news from melbourne with a 3 minute clip to what happened locally  oh wait don't ch 10 telecast 'our' news from melbourne already ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Is the MM being held the Thursday night before the GF again? If so, how will they do crosses during The Footy Show? That finishes the week before.

Good point. Perhaps the SANFL may make it the week before the Preliminary Final, that way they feel that the live crosses during the AFL Footy Show Grand Final Special will have a huge audience watching some form of advertising the SANFL. Plus Ch9 saves money! Win/Win!!!!

As dissapointing as it is to not be able to watch the presentation on telly, I don't blame channel 9 for making the decision they did.

I would have thought the ABC would be the perfect fit for the coverage with their personalities covering the games anyway so it would be a natural fit. Obviously they would be concerned about the potential financial loss so are staying away from it...

I might have to think about heading along then, would be a good night no doubt, from some stories I've heard...

Bad luck for the guy who wins it if he is playing on the Saturday.

The Finals games are on a Sunday, that gives the winner(s) an extra day to sober up.

Hopefully the story appearing in yesterday's Advertiser may now be a catalyst for an alternative form of coverage, such as radio or website count, as originally suggested.

A website count would absolutely be possible if that's the way the sanfl want to go. I would assume the only way safooty could do one is if those producing it pay to get in.

That's a good idea, we should approach the SANFL about that if they can't get wider coverage. 8)

For what it is worth, I have a Magarey ticket allocated as part of my Stats Report contract and I already have the laptop with Wireless Internet (used for LifeFM calls) so if the SANFL can give me pemission, a table and a power point & we are away.

That said I have remember doing this once from home on the old footysa.com site and you would need at least 2 people working on it just to keep up.

It may also test the server capacity if everyone logs in aka SANFL Scoreboard.

Would be appropriate for Life 107.9 FM to cover it live with Phil, John and Jason Evans.

Sheedy to win it again.

I don't think it's much of a "shock", has been coming for a while with the media focus on the AFL.

Just keep building those crowds up and the mass media may start to listen. Especially if a SANFL game gets a bigger crowd than a Port Power home game.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Well RPH already do a show on the Thursday Night ... why not expanded it live from the Magarey?

Personally if LifeFM wanted to do it, I would love to be involved, anything to help get the info out LIVE to the masses.

Or it might be more mainstream on fiveaa or 891 ABC Adelaide ... time will tell but surely someone on radio should pick it up.
