Sorry Dutchy, I think your post is taking this thread a little off track...

Back on track, I read with interest that Scott Dutschke may be back for Centrals this week, which will be good as we could do with a bit more toughness around the ball, and an extra crumber up forward for the predicted wintery, slippery conditions.

The article was more about Chris Gowans, in today's paper, and made mention of the fact that he is returning to full training after recovering now from his knee injury. Roy Laird said he will not play against Norwood, although he mentioned on the 5AA Sunday night show that he might try and have a run in the 2's maybe.

I'm still quietly confident of a Doggies win but with predicted wet weather, will stick by margin of about 3 goals...

Would Chris Gowans, or even James for that matter, play reserves football? I couldn't see that happening myself. I don't think that they would've played any reserves football in their time at centrals, cue spelly. I think sitting out the extra week and not having his pride dented by playing reserves would sit better with Chris.

I wouldn't picture the Gowans boys thinking Reserves football was "beneath" them ... I'd actually go the other way and suggest they would be happy to have a kick with any of the boys at the club (naturally with the goal of getting fit and healthy and back into the 1's ASAP).

Griffin in for the dogs by the sounds of it.

As for the Gowans playing reserves, they'd both play where picked. If they deserved to come back through the 2s in Chris' case (as I think both have done previously IIRC) or dropped due to form if they feel James form is down. I think they'd be honest enough with themselves to know whether it was necessary or not. But if they found themselves unable to force their way back into the league team then that would make 100% sure they would retire at the end of that season.

Griffin is a definate OUT for the Crows, will be handy for us seeing as though Buckets rucked by himself last week. In saying that though, with the poor weather forecasted, will it be a risk playing 2 bug men again ? I wouldn't think so, Buckets can pinch hit up forward if need be, crash a few packs and have the crumbers at his toes. Now just hope Griff plays 1 more game after this week for us, so he qualifies for finals

As for the Gowans, they have both played reserves footy, from memory, both earlier on in their careers with us and both after coming back from injury. IIRC, I think James played a half in the 2's about 2002 and kicked about 5 or 6 in a half of footy and was straight back in the league side the following week. As for Chris, he will play at least 1 ressies game in the coming weeks before coming back into the league side. He has been back running but would obviously lack match fitness so a game in the magoos will be on the cards to counter that for sure :D

On to Norwood, Taylor Walker did not get selected in the 25 man sqaud for the Crows so he will play for the Redlegs, no doubt delighting many Legs fans. Luke Jericho would have to play AFL this week and Bryce Cambpell shouldn't be dropped. Matt Thomas wasn't named in the Power squad so he will either play for Trevor Hill's team or have another week off with a calf complaint from memory. Has anyone got either of the Dogs or Legs side to post on here, I'm curious to see the changes before the League Teams Show on 5RPH tonight :?

With Ladey coming back in and the wet weather forecasted, I don't think he was ever going to be considered anyway...

Plus, we know what the AFL clubs are like, they name guys in their "extended squads" forcing the SANFL clubs to list them as "OUTS" and they never end up playing AFL anyway and line up for the respective local club. I hate it when they bloody do that :?

Agreed, but I think this is more of an issue with Port Power.

Yeah, you're right swark...

It's bloody frustrating for us supporters, would have to piss the local clubs off...

You dont think the SANFL clubs would actually know where the above named players will really play?

You think Port or the Crows play silly buggers with the SANFL sides?

Listening to the 5RPH league teams show on the radio to catch our side for the weekend as the side hasn't been posted on here or emailed yet...

They actually just spoke to Roy Laird and it was a really good interview...

There was both good and bad news from Roy on the show. The bad news was that Schelly had the scans on the groin and will unfortunately miss 2 or 3 weeks which is obviously a bit of a blow. The good news is that Chris Gowans IS BACK !!? Not in the league side, but Roy said he has trained well during the week and will play in the ressies on Saturday. He just said that missing 11 or 12 weeks of footy was too much to ignore, despite the big temptation to bring him back into the league side immediatley.

Roy didn't give the side picked but I got the impression there is only going to be the 1 change to this weeks side and that's Jon Griffin IN for Daniel Schell OUT with the groin strain. Roy also spoke of the improved effort from players in recent weeks as a result of the players lifting their workrate on the track. Also spoke about the big opening of the gym and swimming pool on Sunday for all the supporters with players in attendance. It was a really good interview.

Bring on Saturday, hope the bloody rain stays away...

Here is the Doggies side that I just got from over on the CDFC Forum...

CENTRAL DISTRICT FOOTBALL CLUB LEAGUE SQUAD
SATURDAY 19 JULY 2008 Vs NORWOOD @ COOPERS STADIUM

Full Forward: Jason Mackenzie Luke Cowan Ian Callinan
Half Forwards: Chad O’Sullivan Heath Lawry Luke McCabe
Centre Line: Elijah Ware James Gowans Adam Switala
Half Backs: Trent Goodrem Daniel Havelberg Ryan Williams
Full Backs: Andrew Hayes Yves Sibenaler Richard Cochran
Rucks: Jonathon Griffin Paul Thomas Matthew Slade
Interchange: (from) Earl Shaw, Brayden O’Hara, James Moss, Louis Hadden & Matthew Westhoff

With wet weather forecast, I don't reckon Matty Westhoff will play and Earl Shaw would have to be the ruckman in the reserves as well. I like the look of our forward line, Roy did say on the radio tonight that with Griffin back from the Crows this week, Buckets will play a pinch hitting role up forward. With Sully, Stan McCabe and Nutta floating around front and square crumbing, these guys will be vital to the sides success in terms of kicking a winning score in the wet...

Interesting to see the Norwood side, obviously Jericho will play for the Crows but no Jamie Vlatko makes things a bit easier for our defenders. I think with Griffen coming back from the Crows and the OUTS for the Legs tilts the odds slightly further towards the Dogs ( I would assume they were slight favourites with the bookies ?) and I reckon our smaller crumbing forwards in O'Sullivan, Callinan, J.Gowans, Ware and the like will play a vital role in the predicted wet conditions.

Still think the Doggies by under 4 goals... :D

Hey, I haven't stopped laughing for 5 minutes. You've made the same faux pas twice in two days! Love your passion tho.

Vlatko not named in our reserves team either. I suspect there will be amendments to our side yet when selections can be finalised pre-Showdown. This should be a cracker of a game but I thought the same last time we played Glenelg....

Well I'm glad I can make someone on here laugh...

Gees, I wont mind your mob only kicking 1 goal for he entire game, that would be nice, we could do with a percentage booster

Like you say, should be a hard, tough battle, very much looking forward to it. I really do hope the rain stays away, just at least while the footy is on then it can piss down all it wants. :D

If it does piss down you can fill up your new pool ready for Sunday's "launch".

On a serious not - does the pool use water run-off for top-ups?

Not quite sure mate, good question though with the environmental impact issues and of course water shortages, I'm sure the club would do something along those lines to minimise the water wastage. I will probably head out for a look on Sunday so I will check it out for ya mate and come back to you on that one :D

Nope, it doesn't. Unsure if it was considered or not.
