Good point on the oval conditions Maxy, all ovals will have had a days play by the end of the week - Thebarton is the oval being used for Fridays semi finals so hopefully that gives at least 2 days rest for all ovals prior to Saturdays league/underage games.

Lets hope the oval turns out to be a boggy mess for this weeks game, thats the thing i miss most now with pristine football, players getting down and dirty, wet weather, mud slinging, hard slogging football is where legends are made, if the pretty boys have natural skills then these are the type of days when they stand out, far ahead of the rest.

Give me a bog heap anytime, it brings out the best in footballers.

it may stop the game from being a lopsided affair

i remember a game v south at the bay a couple of years ago

no-one was there

rained all day, almost snowed. It was about -5degrees, chilly wind blowing through - thankgod the game wasnt at noarlunga

South were in control all day long and i think they had a fairly handy lead at one stage in the last 1/4 when a south player took a mark at centre half forward - only for the decision to go our way and we booted something stupid like 7 goals in 15 minutes or less to get up.

it was an enjoyable game, not because we won, but because footy is a winter sport and should be played in the vicious weather that can sometimes occur as SUBPOL mentioned above.

Many of our wins against South in recent times have been as a result of bursts of play where we have a big 3rd term, or come from behind* in the last to snatch the win, despite being neck and neck all day...

Lovely football to watch and a real credit to Westies for playing in such a vein.

If South try to do the same, Glenelg will smash 'em...

Yeah, I don't like it when you see "flooding" in SANFL...

It's done enough in the AFL and is bloody aweful to watch. We all go to the footy to see an attacking style of play and watch the players exhibit the skill and flair. Obviously Westies thought that they could try and minimise the Bays scoring potency with that style of play...

Obviously Glenelg were just a tad suprised that Andy Collins adapted his men to this style of play and in the 2nd half, the Tigers were able to get around it and start kicking goals to eventually go on and win quite comfortably. I think that South wont try that kind of thing, especially on the smaller Challenge Recruitment Oval. I think The Bays will win comfortably at home in front of the Bandwagon faithful

Glenelg by 8 goals for me, Grima to kick 5 or 6 :D

If it's the game I'm thinking of, it was a terrible game but Glenelg had a comfortable lead at 3/4 time and might have been coming home with the gale. South got a run on and clawed to within a goal, looked like they were going to run over the top, then there was that dodgy decision and instantly the run on reversed: Bays piled on another 7 or 8 to bury South.

I remember standing on the (then) barren expanse of Snouts Hill with the few other diehards, sodden to the core, my tender little bumhole frozen solid, wondering why I put myself through it all

I did some "player interviews" about 3 weeks after that game and when asked about any season highlights, it was interesting how many players referred back to that win, even though we backed it up with massive wins against West, Port, Norwood and Sturt.

it shows how bad my memory is!!!!!!!! i think my brain froze that day and its never thawed out since!!!!!!!

I thought South were in front and I remember we kicked 7-8 quick goals to get the win, so maybe you are correct in that south did charge at us in the last 1/4 but we got the dodgy decision which somehow stopped there momentum and then we kicked away.

either way it was a bloody cold, wet, freezing day - but thoroughly enjoyable.

Psuedo, it was the day you gave me the extra Snouts ticket!! I had a hangover from hell, it was freezing and when McGlone took an absolute hanger only to have it reversed for shepherding I was about to head for the razor blades. Alwyn Davey also kicked in to the man about 25 metres out that didn't help......Crappest day ever

i remember that day, july 16 2006, strong wind favoring the northern end, standing on snouts hill, looked like we had it sewn up, being about 4 goals up about 10 mins into the last when south played some inspired footy against the breeze, got within a kick, and should have hit the front - davey kicked into the man on the mark, no south fans anywhere all day and 3 seemed to jump out of the trees when they made their charge  they might even have drawn level? but we kicked 7 unanswered goals in the last 10 minutes and won by i reckon 42 points. was the beginning of 5 in a row for us and then we lost our last 3 to north/central/south to miss out on 5th spot

I listened to that match on radio and it was a tale of two halves in one quarter.

Round 15 2006
Glenelg 2.1 9.5 11.5 19.10 (124)
South 4.6 5.9 6.16 11.16 (82)
Glenelg, 1868

For the conditions described, it didn't refect on the scoreboard. Then again, there were other matches in 2006 like that on the occasions it did actually rain.

This was the same day that Sean O'Keefe got 50 posessions for Sturt against West and failed to get a Magarey Vote.

Glenelg notched up the following scores in succession after that match: 28.12, 27.14, 18.11, 26.17, 22.10.

Which so happened to be what I noted at the time! But I think this time, noticing the low scores of this year, this will be another to fall in the category of 12 or so goals vs 6 or so goals match.

I too remember that awful day down at Glenelg in 2006. Didnt stop raining all day 8) Bizarre last quarter, as has been discussed above. At least we got our revenge a few months later

Sounds as though Lade, Otten and McKay will be out of the South side. Ouch :(
