STURT’S BRODIE MARTIN WINS ROUND 15

COCA-COLA STAR SEARCH AWARD NOMINATION

Brodie Martin from the Sturt Football Club has been named the Round Fifteen Coca-Cola Star Search Award nominee.

In just his second League match, Martin played an outstanding game in Sturt’s 70 point thrashing over South Adelaide in Murray Bridge on Sunday.

Playing on the wing, Martin gained 20 possessions and his pace and tidy delivery of the ball assisted Sturt’s impressive midfield in enabling a smooth transition of the ball through to their strong forwards. His delivery contributed to Sturt’s high scoring in Sunday’s match.

Martin played consistently in Sturt’s Under 19’s during season 2007, as well as playing in their Under 19’s Grand Final team. After an impressive 2007 season, Martin stepped up to Sturt’s Reserves team this season, before making his League debut in Round 13 against Glenelg in front of a crowd of 11,827.

Martin was recruited from the Meninge Football Club in the River Murray Football League. His impressive performance in Sturt’s Under 19’s caught the eye of the selectors and he was recruited to the Crows Rookie list at the end of season 2007.

Brodie Martin is Sturt’s first Coca-Cola Star Search nominee for season 2008.

Congrats to young Brodie... =D> =D> =D>

I saw him play in the Under 19's Grand Final last year against Port Magpies and was pretty impressed. I thought that he looked very poised, had clean skills and despite his small stature, didn't mind getting the hard ball.

He was pretty quiet that day when compared to his other games in the finals.

His first quarter against glenelg is the most dominant quarter I have seen by a midfielder in the under 19's. It would have been his effort in that game that would have got him onto the crows rookie list.

I don't think 1 good game would be the reason the lad got recruited mate, if that was the case, why wasn't I recruited by an AFL club ??? 8-[ :-s

I kicked 5 goals in a half for Centrals Under 17's in a trial game back in the early 2000's

I think the Crows talent spotters would have had their eye on him throughout the course of the year and would have shown more potential to them over a sustained period of time, not just from 1 good effort alone. There would be more to it than just that :D

Never the less, Brodie is a real talent, from what I've seen and heard about the lad, I think that he will go on to have a career in the AFL... :-k

Of course that one quarter did not get him onto the rookie list just by itself.

However it would be one of those quarters that sticks in a recruiters mind where he showed that he had speed, a strong mark, an engine, clean hands, courage, strength, football smarts and skill. Brodie showed all this throughout the season but he was not able to put a whole game together. Towards the end of the season he started to put games together and that day against glenelg was the icing on the cake that proved he had taken the next step and thus what I mean by that quarter is the one that pushed him over the edge from being looked at closely to being rookie listed.

Obviously he tested well and interviewed well with the crows.

The AFC said he wasn't on their radar at all until the latter stages of the season. No doubt his finals performances got him the nod.
