R15 Sturt v South @ Murray Bridge Review

Someone on the show definitely said the crowd was 'lippy' but I don't remember who...was only half listening.

What do you mean by 'lippy'?, were they giving a mouthfull to the players of both sides?, or one side, or were they making more noise than the 36 players on the ground?.

Lets face it, the crowd should be 'Lippy', they should be shouting, encouraging, supportive of the good players and the things they do, and if they want to bag, the way South played today then they have every right to do so, the South supporters just groan with almost every attacking move when the teams plays like it did today, The effort South gave today especially in the first half was as bad as you would see anywhere, they certainly have a lot of boys trying to do a mans job, the more experienced players must be more accountable and precise and be very supportive of the younger players, by delievering the ball to them , not wide or short or to far from the target that they are continually under the pump and prone to make mistakes.

For the second time this season Sturt have taken South to the cleaners, with hard, fast thinking football, prepared to run to spaces, use their eyes up field for team mates and strong one grab marking, these are the basics of football, that all good teams posess, unfortunately South are struggling to find these basics in theirs.

And if the crowd is 'Lippy' then they have every right to be.

I don't mean anything by it. The word is in quotation marks because that is the word the person on 5aa used. I was merely backing up what bayman said he had heard on the radio and providing a means for those who had questioned it to hear it for themselves.

Here's my amateur review...

1st Term

The quarter was totally dominated by Sturt, but for whatever reason the Blues just blazed away at goal and were duly rewarded with a paltry 1.5 to 0.2 at that stage. The last 8 or so minutes though, they got their act together and got the deserved 28 point quarter time lead, being up 4.6 to 0.2

2nd Term

I was half-expecting this to be a battle, but to be truthful, South were just woeful. Into the wind the Blues hammered home 7.5 to 2.1 and to have a massive 11.11 to 2.3 lead and that pretty much said it all. The Panthers were terrible, poor skills and poor decision making, whereas the Blues were just fantastic, one of their best quarters for the season.

3rd Term & 4th Term

Unfortunately the game petered out somewhat to be a bit of a grind. Sturt kicked 1.5 to 1.2 in the third in what was an uneventful and probably lazy quarter from the Blues. South tried harder, but just couldn't make things work. I feel bad for the club, as I like South, but geez, they just seem to have a real ingrained problem at Noarlunga.

The last term was equally unremarkable. Sturt finished with 3.4 to 2.5 to win 15.20 to 5.10 or whatever it was. Overall a good solid win for Sturt, where they at least managed to avoid letting South kick 5-6 easy one's in the last, so I'm pleased we at least matched the Panthers and held on for the 12 goal win.

All in all, it just reinforced my thoughts that Glenelg and Sturt seem much better than the rest, though obviously we all count Centrals out at our own peril.

Noticed in doing some research that Sturt played South in R15 last year as this year. From what I can gather, Sturt 25 15 165 D South 8 7 55. Chambo kicked 9.4 that day and his tally after R15 was 69, this year he kicked 6.5 and his tally is 63.33.

I had a fantastic day at JP Oval.

Cheap beer, lovely Country atmosphere. What more could a guy ask?

Thought Sturt played okay up until the long-break but inappropriately ordinary in the 2nd Half.

"Madness" our best closely followed by Scooter and Coady. Chambo fantastic, Jaensch played okay too.

Presentations were held at the ground. A great turn-out and again a lovely Country atmosphere.
