All discussions to do with the SANFL

I was most impressed with North Adelaides good last quarter.

Norwood I believe was the last club to get the Pokies in the SANFL ?
Might be just a coincidence how much difference the new recruit P.MACHINE has made in 2007

Taylor Walker will be a good AFL player for the Crows whenever he plays
Im with HAWKY he might not be ready, but he might be the next best available option for the Crows at this stage

With Burton going down it will be sooner rather than later.

Neil Craig has stated Walker WILL NOT play this year to a number of Norwood people. Now with the injuries it will be interesting to see if he changes his mind.

Great win for legs. Im very happy with that result. Young walker looks to be a future star - but at the moment is not ready for AFL.

I thought their first quarter was very good and their second quarter only slightly behind that.
The contest was all over at about 2.20pm and now the posters who thought we were talking out of our rear ends, should fully understand that North are CRAP and a RABBLE

Yep that is true at the moment. I dont mean to bag North but thats ture.

How do you know that he is not ready stan and when will he be ready then. Footy is about weekly circumstances when it comes to selections and as I pointed out earlier, what other options do the Crows have at the selection table when discussing replacements in their forward line for the injured Burton and Porplycia. Sellar played reserves for the bays, Jericho didn't do much for Norwood and Hentschel didn't play on the weekend and is struggling with soft tissue injuries. If I was a betting man, my money is on Walker to debut in the AFL this week.

I pointed out a fact about how well Justin Westhoff flourished after many said he was far from ready for AFL football. Walker is in a smilar situation to Westy in that he is only young, a little undersized and inexperienced but unless you throw the kids to the wolves when the right opportunity comes up, how do you know whether they will rise to the challenge or not ? Show a bit of faith in the kid and you never know what they might be able to prodeuce. Look at Justin's breakout year (in 12 or 13 games of footy) with Port Power giving him the chance.

Walks doesn't have the tank or defensive side to his game at the moment and will get exposed at AFL level, however, that could well be an important part of a learning curve.

Yeah I know mate, but I thought Westhoff had been working harder without the ball at CDFC than Walks is ... Anyway, we'll just have to sit tight and see what unfolds ... The lad came over here to play AFL and I hope he gets his wish as early as possible.

CP does make a good point about his tank and his defensive work - I thin the latter is improving but he will improve significantly with extra strength and fitness. At the moment he is a bit like a Grenville Dietrich or John Fidge type in their latter years - players who were still very handy goalkickers and relied a lot on their vast experience but were maybe not all-round forwards as age caught up with them. Walker has natural talent and it is his fitness which, with extra experience, will make him a sensational prospect.

Very doubtful he would, because he understands how important it is not to rush him into the AFL. People should remember he camer from Broken Hill, and started this season in the Reserves. From Broken Hill to the Reserves to the League to the AFL all in the space of a few months is way too quick.

Players drafted by Adelaide AHEAD of Taylor in 2007 were Patrick Dangerfield 10, Andy Otten 27, Jarrhan Jacky 30, Myke Cook 38, Tony Armstrong 58, and Aaron Kite 71. Taylor was drafted at 75 because he is very raw, and needs a lot of nursing before thrusting him into the AFL, and Neil Craig knows this.

He's cruising along nicely ATM, just let him go. If he is thrust into the Crows right now as the great white hope, there would be far too much pressure and expectation placed upon him, and it could prove damaging in the long term. The AFL is a cut throat environment where they don't have as much patience as SANFL clubs for development.

Again, tounge in cheek of course, I refer to my earlier statement about Norwood fans not wanting to lose Walker to the Crows because he is going alright for them at the moment.

And once again, I refer to my Justin Westhoff comparison with young Tex. Westy was only taken 4 picks earlier than Walker , at number 71 the year before, showing that kids picked that late can perform at the highest level if given the opportunity. I wouldn't be suprised if Craigy doesn't pick him but I'll say "told ya so" if he does. Of all the players picked before Taylor, none of them are out and out forwards so with the lack of form Crows listed forwards in the SANFL at the moment, he is as good a chance as ever to play in the Showdown next Sunday. :D

Walks would have gone much higher than that mate ... He was actually one of the scholarship picks and I think a club only needs to use a last round pick to add them to their list.

Dangerfield will debut before Walker does. Dont forget the forgotten Ken McGregor either. I dont think the Cows will blood to many youngsters while still a real chance for a top 8 if not top 4 position.

How the hell would Dangerfield get a game ahead of Walker???

Walker has proved himself (on more than a few occasions) against good opposition at the next best level down from the AFL. However everyone talks up Dangerfield, who has spent most of his year waving his fat pay cheque at a bunch of 17 years old in the TAC cup (save for one or two less than average games for West and who I might add, are rock bottom again!) based on what???

Having seen both players "perform" this year, Walker is miles ahead of Dangerfield so it is a "no" contest. Yesterday he was happy to take the lip from his North opponents and he gave back as good as he got and never backed off. Whether he is ready is "subjective" but if the Crows can play Tippett all year and also Mackay for a fair share of the season then they have nothing to lose in trying him. So Legs fans, sadly he looks a long term AFL prospect. A very impressive player!

P.S. If the Crows pick McGregor then they seriously need to review the big man options going forward because that would "smack" of desperation!

WALKER is a re-incarnation of Peter Hudson
Similar height
Similar movements
Hudson was the master of doubling back and losing his opponents
Walker is uncannily similar in that regard
If Walker ends up 3/4 as good as Peter Hudson he will be a legend as well

Footnote
For those who dont know who Hudson is
He was a star full forwrd for the Hawthorn club
He had some serious injuries
The worst was a knee injury
I can recall he was playing his first game after a long time out with a serious knee injury
The champ kicked about 10 goals in his comeback game

He was the smartest most cleverest full forward I have ever seen
Hudson kicked 150+ goals one year
From memory he had a shot for goal in a grand final for he most goals in a VFL season and from 10 yards out kicked into the man on the mark
Walker reminds me so much of Hudson

Top 4 chances are shot, and making the 8 appears a stretch. Even though he's in good form, and the Crows are in desperate need of forwards to replace Burton and Porps, I doubt he will play. However in saying that, Craig clearly isn't afraid of giving guys their debuts in Showdowns. van Berlo, Douglas and Maric all debuted against Port, could we have another?

Ken McGregor & Luke Jericho will be further in front in Neil Craigs thinking than Taylor Walker. Walker will only get his chance when the crows chances this season are gone.
Next season may be different.
