Round 16 Preview - Norwood v Centrals @ Coopers Stadium

With the Redlegs having a convincing win over a very dissapointing Roosters outfit and Centrals battling out a hard fought win against the Maggies today, it certainly sets up next weeks clash between the 2 sides at The Parade as a bit of a blockbuster. In what will be a battle of 3rd vs 4th, the resurgant Redlegs will go into this home clash on the back of some good form which will naturally develop an expectation of knocking off the reigning prmiers. Centrals meanwhile, are slowly finding patches of good form and showed some real guts and determination to just take the points over a fighting Port Adelaide, who led at every change in the game at Elizabeth.

I'm not quite sure about any Norwood injuries from today but the Dogs are likely to go into this game without the versatile Daniel Schell who seemed to jag a groin in the warm up, trying to shake in the opening term but sitting out the rest of the game after quarter time. Any other changes to either side may be AFL forced with another impressive 5 goal haul from Taylor Walker putting presure on the Crows to give him his AFL debut. Of course with Brett Burton and Jason Porplycia going down it is possible that both Walker and maybe Luke Jericho might just get a call up, while The Power could make changes that either effect or benefit both Centrals and Norwood.

I'm already looking forward to this game and think that at these early stages, the result could really go either way. I found it interesting that the Dogs chose to only play 1 ruckman today, in Jason Mackenzie who did a great job, but I think with Norwood having both Stephen Doyle and Adam Cockshell in good form Roy Laird may need to bring in Jon Giles or Earl Shaw to combat the 2 bigger Redledgs ruckman. Of course, as is the case in most games, the battle will be won in the midfield so I think the Dogs may need that extra big man. The smaller ground down at The Parade might suit the Dogs really well as they looked dangerous when they went long and deep into attack with Heath Lawry and Luke Cowan both returning to form today and kicking a couple of crucial goals each.

Although early days at this stage, I'm going to tip the Doggies, in a high scoring encounter, by about 3 or 4 goals.

Yes, I too love going to Norwood Oval, in part due to the fact that it is only 500 metres down the road from my place, but it is just one of my favourite grounds to go to. As long as you don't mind drinking at 10am, we can meet at The Bath for a bevvie, but I'll be getting down to the oval for the start of the ressies. Maybe we could have a coffee at Mondos, I know you're a big fan of that place

The Southern Stand (sheltered) is available to anyone. Not sure if the western stand (members only) holds 2000, let alone 2997??

A fair point but we've got at least six players who shouldn't be tainted by our recent abjext humiliations. Hopefully there's enough leaders amongst these players to at least mitigate the worst of the mental scarring.

A fair point but we've got at least six players who shouldn't be tainted by our recent abjext humiliations. Hopefully there's enough leaders amongst these players to at least mitigate the worst of the mental scarring.

I'm not a big believer of mental scarring and history affecting a players mind set when going into clashed against certain sides. I think the most important point about mental strength is how well the players prepare themselves in terms of their individual output and that of a team perspective wholeistically. I reckon if you ask any player if previous results, good or bad, play a part in their mental attitude toeards certain opposition, most of them say they just focus on the job at hand and doing their part for the team to come together as won and produce, to the maximum, what they are capable of as a team.

Footy is such a funny game, that on any given week, in any given competition, any side can beat the other if they apply themselves better than the other. I believe that team success is determined by how well the individuals block out all the mental negativity and focus on the positives, then of course, the actual playing abilities of the individuals determines the level of that success.

I don't think thr Norwood players will give 2 hoots about the good record in recent times Centrals has over them at the Parade, because let's face it, Centrals have a good record at most grounds over the past decade because of their sustained success. The Redlegs have to beleive they are capable of beating the Dogs on the day with the cattle that they take to the field. I think Norwood are going well and this is a bit of a danger game for Centrals. Losing Daniel Schell is a blow, but maybe Matty Westhoff will get a chance after some good reserves form.

I think the key to this game, like I've mentioned before, is the battle of the midfield. It will be interesting to see if Roy Laird will get Buckets Mackenzie ruck against Doyle by himself or will bhe bring in Giles or Shaw from the 2's to back the veteran ruckman up ? I think the Dogs game will suit the smaller deck of Coopers Stadium and if they can win enough of the footy in the middle, get it into the forward line wucik, long and deep, we now have a couple of forwards back in form in Cowan and Lawry, so we should be able to kick enough goals to win the game. If it is wet as predicted, then we also have a few small crumbers in form in O'Sullivan and Callinan who will be there front and square to clean up.

Should be a really ripping game, I jusy hope the weather does hold of. Norwood have had some pretty good crowd numbers this year so let's hope the Doggies fans get along to the Parade and cheer on their side. I reckon they should get at least 3000 their, if not more, but like I say, it will depend on the weather a bit as well. The other interesting factor in this game is how much will the sides be effected by the Crows and Power selections for this weeks Showdown... ?? Only time will tell, guess we will know more come Thursday night selections...

I certainly hope so SP...

I have been on the Walker "bandwagon" (slightly different to the "Bays Bandwagon" guys ) of late and think he should play AFL this week.

I went on KG and Cornsey to comment on young Tex but didn't really get to say all I wanted to because an earlier caller named Malcolm (might have been MAL from this site maybe ) stole my thunder and made a couple of points I wanted to

Cornsey was pretty adamant that Taylor isn't ready, as is the opinion by many on here, but I rasied the same point I have been making on here with the example of what Justin Westhoff did last year after similar comparisons about not being ready. In true Cornsey fashion, he just cut me off and was adamant that his opinion is right and mine was wrong

That guys is a tosser I tell ya

Anyway, back on track, I think the Doggies will be too good in this one and will either only just win, or pump the Redlegs by plenty. I hope the latter is the case but will take the win anyway
