You must admit when he's not playing Centrals havn't looked the same side to what we all know there capable of.

Hey Mate,

Yeah, I understand what you mean now, and I guess it's not too far from the truth. He is a great leader and quality fotballer. I think as a whole, the side is obviously better with him in it but we proved on the weekend with blokes like O'Hara, Hadden and Moss are all ready t take the next step up at league level. Thommo played pretty well against your mob down at Alberton last time the sides met but I think that maybe after 2 weeks off, his influence this week might not be a strong.

In saying that, you can concentrate on quelling his influence if you want, just means someone else will have the opportunity to step up. Callinan, O'Sullivan, Hadden, O'Hara, J.Gowans, Ware, Williams... we have enough to cover him if he is a little flat ot tagged out of the game. Thommo is a great bloke and talented footballer who, yes, is sorely missed from the side when not there and this week, I'll think we'll see a fairly average game from the number 16.

Did Jacob Surjan and Michael Wilson do enough for the Maggies last week to earn a recall to the Power side and miss this game against the Doggies ??? I saw Surjan was 2nd best in the paper so he might be a chance, not sure about Wilson though ???

I think Centrals might lose Jonathon Griffin back to the Crows but I hope he at least stays with Centrals for the next few weeks as we need a ruckman who can get first hand on the ball. Plus he will qualify for finals which might be handy as well. I think we might see Brad Symes back if the Crows decide to drop him after a poor game last week meaning he will aslo qualify for finals.

Still sticking to my tip of Centrals by 18 points and getting nervous about my debut as the Boundary Ridfer for LifeFM's call of this game. One good thing is that I will be able to get right up to the 1/4 and 3/4 huddles to report back on what the coaches have to say. Will be a new and wexciting experience, one I am very much looking forward to, despite the initial nerves...

Surjan definately did enough for a recall but wilson hasn't impressed me but we have enough players in reserves

What kind of crowd numbers are likely to turn up to this blockbuster game ???

I'm hoping as many Doggies fans will turn up as possible and get behind their side in an all important clash...

While the Power play in the evening (or twilight I think, can't remember) so will this affect the number of Port fans that go ???

I'm predicting between 3 & 3,500 but would be great to see close to 5,000 at Elizabeth on Saturday for what should be game of the round in a vital clash for both clubs.

Getting this thread back on track... Just over my lunch break, I've been thinking about what changes there might be from the league side that beat West Adelaide last week. There might only be just 1 change to the side but then I guess there could be up to 3 or 4 as well ???

Obviously our co-captain Paul Thomas comes straight back into the side, but at who's expense ? My guess will probably be the unlucky James Moss. Louis Hadden played too good a game to lose his spot and Brayden O'Hara has already been dropped once this year, he deserves his spot.

Then there could be Scott Dutschke coming back in from injury or, if fit, does he need a run in the 2's as with Cam Faulkner, who I'm not quite sure if he is back from Roxby Downs with his employment committments ? I would think Cam would be in the early game if he is actually back.

Then do we have a few forced changes to deal with from AFL selections ? Do the Crows take up Jonathon Griffin and will they maybe drop Brad Symes after a poor first up AFL game againsts the Cats after being out injured for a while ?

If Griffo goes to the Crows, I hope the league selectors reward Earl Shaw for his pretty good reserves form as I think Joffa Giles is just struggling at the moment. I hope Griffo stays with us this week (and next week so he qualifies for finals !!?) and I hope Symsey does get dropped (again being selfish so he qualifies for finals as well !!?) so there would be a couple of interesting choices to be made if that eventuates ???

Hopefully, whatever changes there are to the side, the boys are switched on for Saturday and of we can play anything like we did down at Alberton the last time the 2 sides met, we should be well on the way to another win and hopefully gaining more momentum leading into the finals.

GO U DOGGIES...

Big Phil...

P.S - Although i know it wont happen, I would love nothing more than to see young reserves player Ashley Duncan be rewarded with his league debut for his awesome form in the 2's . Probably not this week, but haven't given up hope on it happening this year. GO ASH !!

For those that are interested, here is the Doggies line up for the game against Port on Saturday. I've listed the chnges to the side as well...

CDFC FORUM wrote:CENTRAL DISTRICT FOOTBALL CLUB LEAGUE SQUAD
SATURDAY 12 JULY 2008 Vs PORT ADELAIDE @ HAMRA HOMES OVAL, ELIZABETH

Full Forward: Luke Cowan, Daniel Schell, Ian Callinan
Half Forwards: Chad O'Sullivan, Heath Lawry, Luke McCabe
Centre Line: Elijah Ware, James Gowans, Adam Switala
Half Backs: Trent Goodrem, Daniel Havelberg, Ryan Williams
Full Backs: Andrew Hayes, Yves Sibenaler, Richard Cochrane

Rucks: Jason Mackenzie, Paul Thomas, Matthew Slade
Interchange (from): Earl Shaw, Brayden O'Hara, James Moss & Louis Hadden

So before the 22 gets cut back to 21, I think there will be just 2 changes to the side that beat West Adelaide last week...

INS: Thomas, Shaw
OUTS: Griffin (Crows) Moss (IMO will be the unlucky one to miss)

I expected the Crows to take Griffo, although it would have been nice to have him the side once again but it is great to see big Earl Shaw back in the team after some pretty good reserves form. As mentined above, I think James Moss might be the unlucky to miss with skipper Paul Thomas coming back in after a 2 week suspension. I hope Louis Hadden keeps his spot, he deserves it.

Great to see Danny Schell named at FF and Havelberg at CHB after the number 27 kicked 5.6 last week and marked anything that came his way. The side looks better with Thommo back in and with Schelly up forward, we seem a bit more potent up forward. The Power did us a favour taking Jacob Surjan into the AFL as he was in pretty good SANFL form. Big game for both clubs, Ican't wait, bring on Saturday...

GO U DOGGIES...

Big Phil...

P.S - Has anyone seen or heard the Centrals reserves side ? Will be interested to see if players like Lee Spurr, Cam Faulkner, Leigh Westhoff, Scott Dutschke and the like are back in the 2's ??? If so, they should have a good side for the early game.

P.P.S - Has anyone got the Maggies side, I know that at least 1 change will be: Surjan - OUT (Power recall)

You'd drop Moss after a 20 possession game in his 2nd league outing?

Personally, I'd have given Switala a run in the B's this week to get some real touch back.

Not dropping him due to his lack of performance NFC. far from it...

More like team stability. With Thommo coming back in, it has to be out of our 3 young guns, O'Hara, Moss and Hadden. Brayden O'Hara has a hard edge to him that I like and we'll need that in the game against Port. While Hadden not only proved his pace and ball winning ability, he was able to use it everytime, on either left foot or right. IMO Mossy will drop out for Thommo in a like for like situation. James has played well in his first couple of league games off half back and with runs on the ball.

With our co-skipper Paul Thomas coming back in, who plays similar roles, again, IMO only, James will be the one to miss out. He'll continue to play well in the 2's no doubt and press further for selection as the season comes to a close. I think James has a future at AFL level but he just needs to work on his excecution under pressure and grow some more confidence. As for Switty Smac, I think he showed marked improvement in his game last week taking contested marks, using the ball and running out of defence again. He deserves to stay in the league side, again IMO.

I like Earl Shaw coming into the Doggies side to cover Jon Griffin going back to the Crows. We pretty much have not had a ruckman who has been in control at ball ups all year and Griffin seemed to get first on on the ball most occasions last week. Will be a bit of a loss to the Doggies but what it does do is give Big Earl Shaw an opportunity he deserves. He has been in pretty good form in the 2's and I just hope he takes the chance by the scruff of the neck and really cements a spot as the number 1 ruckman in our side.

Joffa Giles is battling hard but has struggled recently at League level and didn't really do a lot in the reserves last week. Although "My Name Is Earl" still makes a few silly decisions and can't really kick too well, he has been getting his hand on the footy, down to the magoos on ballers but has also been able to drop back into the defensive hole and play that role, while occasionally picnh hitting up forward and kicking the odd goal. He has to stand up and assert himself on the contest.

Still think Mossey will be the unlucky one to miss out from the extended bench so that will mean he is likely to play reserves. For those that are interested, here is the reserves side listed in the paper. Interestingly, names I may have expected are either not there or still obviusly missing from injury or other commitments. Guys like Cam Faulkner (work ?), Leigh Westhoff, Scott Dutschke, Brodie Hudson, Jeremy Aufderheide and of course Ben Woods has returned to NSW...

RESERVES:
Baldwin, Barmby, Boyle, Brading, Cole, Dimasi, Duncan, Edwards, Foldesdy, GIles, Kelly, McGee, McGrath, McShane, Officer, Porter, Spurr, Trevena, M.Westhoff, Whiley, White (Moss, O'Hara, Hadden ???)

Good to see Lee Spurr back in the side after injury and keep an eye on young Tim Dimasi from the Under 19's, he was impressive last week in his first reserves game. Of course, Ash Duncan is in career best form and hope he continues that (heard Roy invited him to train with the league side during the week so he might not be too far from making a debut, I hope) and I beleive young Joel Baldwin is back also from an injury of some sort.

Make sure you get along early and support the future league stars of our club, I know first hand, that the young players in particular enjoy having the crowd cheer them on, it gives them a real confidence boost. Should be a good game in the magoos, Port have a few senior blokes in the side so, like the League game hopefully, there will be a solid display of football on show.
