Has the THUG mantle been shifted to Pecker Park?

Postby TigerBoss » Mon Jul 07, 2008 11:06 am

Dean Howard remains the ultimate THUG in my eyes...but Ben Schwarze and Matty Lokan both had a go at trying to claim the coveted THUG trophy on Satdee, in the ill-fated clash at Alberton Oval.

I thought Schwarze's VERY late hit on Lees was very THUGful in nature...and I would expect the Tribunal to seriously consider giving him at least a week for that weak attack...

I don't expect Lokan to even have a charge to answer for his follow-up a few minutes later, though why did he pummel into the back of Wright? It was quite a gutless move by him also. Bloke probably can't help himself though, having played at both the Collywobbles and Port Magpies FC's.

What incidents are you referring to with Dean Howard TB?

I thought the ultimate thug in the SANFL would be Gowans and his actions in last years GF.

I reckon it might be the third time Schwarze has been reported against us.

Incident Brad, not plural.

King hit Heath Culpitt several years back right in front of the grandstand at Richmond Oval...

If i remember that incident correctly, it was Culpitt that was the instigator and Howard retaliated.

Here we go again...

I'm not going to delve into this topic anymore because I've had my fair share of PM's over my opinions but all I will say Brad is... :? ](*,) [-(

DON'T THROW STONES IN GLASS HOUSES MATE... :-s :-s :-s

Take a look in your own backyard before you go around bandying other clubs players on here as thugs... Each club has them to a degree, just some worse than others IMO :-k

Yep, you remember correctly. Culpy had a bit of push and shove, and THUG decided to end it with a gutless whack when Culpy had his back to him...

You've just helped me prove my point. Cheers.

I said I wasn't going to delve into this topic again but you leave me know choice mate... :?

I endorse the Gowans "king hit" about as much as the Shubert whack behind the play that instigated the retaliation from James Gowans. This was proven to be so after James had his original 6 game ban reduced to 3 (which many people didn't know and claimed the tribunal let Gowsa get away it, so to speak) due to the video evidence provided that, like I say, CLEARLY showed Shane Subert hit James first.

I've done my best to get over it and put it in the past, it would be nice if a few others could do the same because I'm sick of saying how it is and copping flack and PM's (in hindsight they were justified with my carry on at times) about the whole incident. GET OVER IT FFS... :?

Like I said, EVERY club has a player or two that have a bit of as reputation as being heavy handed. Some can just control it better than others and clearly Shane and James are expmples of players that can't. The true THUG mantle of SANFL has to be "Grave Danger" surely ????

Was he reported at the time?

I thought I saw the book come out, but according to todays paper, the only report was "Riminton for high contact on J Clayton".

More than one mate... :D

James and Chris Gowans, according to some, of course who else would it be Dutchy

I guess with Chris missing most of the year, my mate Thommo is taking over the reign there isn't he

Wind the clock back 10 years and I would say Peter Green, a former Carlton recruit and my all time favourite Centrals player, didn't mind throwing his weight around. :? :D

Who would you say is your's at the Bay Dutchy, have to be Grima wouldn't it ??? 8)

I had a last minute edit change to my original post Dutchy, as you will see...

I agree that they are annoying, antagonistic pains in the arses but they don't go round hitting other blokes for NO REASON at all, which is generally what you associate a THUG with... 8)

I would say that THUG isn't probably the appropriate word for ANY player in the comp, like I said, I don't reckon there are any blokes who deliberatley belt blokes for the sake of it. Some are just really good at niggling, wrestling, jumper punching and big bumbs as opposed to others. 8)

Who was the player that you guys had in the early 90's, had a goatie and tatts, wore number 1 from memory. Maybe Mansell was his surname, can't quite remember. I do remember seeing him throw the odd hay maker from time to time, he was a pretty angry footballer and a real tough nut

Alright you guys , you have uncovered our Eagles Secret Mission Statement that was circulated on Saturday at Alberton & signed by over 500 supporters ( even some Board members alledgedly ) . At training tonight its to be presented to Ron Fuller & Andrew Rogers . THUG stands for Time He Used Grocke ! Maybe he will get the message then , but who can be sure ? Boy , has Ronnie got some pets ( Roberts & Fairclough ) & premiership CHFs are not really that hard to replace ? Ron & Andrew = DUMB & DUMBER !

How did he take the words right out of your mouth...you had ample opportunity in your several 5000 word essays to make your point...Apache did so in a few lines...

PS - Scott Salisbury was warranted in his THUGness...he was belting Tony Antrobus at the time...

PPS - Hodges, I was about 98% certain that the report against Schwarze had been laid* but it may just be that there was no report...quite interesting if he isn't at least sighted...
