afl umpires coming back to the sanfl

overall i think the umpiring in the games i've seen has been pretty good (barring the cucification of justin mcconnell) but today & at other times during the year while not really favouring either team the afl listed umpires were very quick to give very soft free kicks (as if they were umpiring a ballet` football league match & not a sanfl match) so can someone tell them at sanfl level we let the play go on rather than pick up ridiculous free kicks that wouldn't even be fouls in basketball

to all you afl umpires coming back like gary fila today & others earlier in the year LET THE PLAY GO UNLESS IT IS A BLANTANT FREE KICK

I do agree.

But they have in mind that their future AFL appointments do also hinge on how they perform in SANFL league games, so obviously they're not going to change the way the AFL instruct them to umpire.

I thought the umpiring yesterday was a disgrace. Too many soft free kicks paid...even the players didn't know what the frees were for half the time.

The beautiful thing about the SANFL is that the game "usually" is left to run its own course with minimal umpire influence...the three blokes that umpired the game yesterday were shocking.

When a bloke has the ball, and is tackled, and the ball spills free, the rule is generally to call "play on", or reward the tackler with holding the ball. I think I counted 4 times yesterday a good strong tackle was laid, and the ball spilt free, only to see the umpires call "holding the man".

Defies logic.

The only thing that is being crucified atm the moment Bayman is the wasted space being used on here whinging about poor old Justin, get over it mate, every club has individuals who would feel hard done by from the umps but we don't carry on about it like a pork chop. I suppose you will use this rubbish comment as to explain his poor form in the last couple of weeks

look i have said it before a mate of mine is an umpire at league level (not a field umpire) apart from the rotation system when they go down for a week every now & then & he told me at the start of the year that they were not going to give justin any of those frees he got last year as some were milked & they felt embarrassed when watching the replay which to me is PREMEDITATED & i've noticed over the last few weeks it is very close to the mark as to what i was told back in january & all i ask is for every player in every team get the same decisions regardless of name or team & bp what is wrong with that ?

Nothing wrong with it at all Bayman, but what does that say about how McConnell plays for, or "milks" free kicks if the umpires have had the balls to acknowledge he sucked them in. Good on them I say, as long as they pay the obvious ones, I think it's great they are not going to let his logie attempts get in the way of making the wrong decision...

Take your Glenelg goggles off for a moment mate and watch how he does milk for free kicks more often than not. Take nothing away from his footballing ability, he has nothing to prove in that regard, he is pretty talented, but he needs to give up on persuing an acting career after footy finishes. Auditioning on the field has got the reaction it deserves mate, it wont be tolerated by the umps who had previosuly been embarrased.

i agree with not paying a free when diving/acting, but when a blatant free isn't given (to any player in any team) it isn't right & in this case it is premeditated which is wrong (& i'd think the same thing if it was happening consistently with any player in any side)
