Home crowds after 13 rounds:
Glenelg 37,139 (average 6190, last season average 3091),
Norwood 28,946 (4824, 3531),
Central District 23,985 (3998, 3830),
Sturt 21,667 (3611, 3263),
Port Adelaide Magpies 15,795 (3159, 3042),
South Adelaide 11,938 (2388, 1907),
Woodville-West Torrens 14,168 (2361, 2471),
North Adelaide 13,947 (2325, 2768),
West Adelaide 8821 (1764, 1924).

Very good attendances from most clubs this year, especially considering the 2007 figures quoted were also up on the previous year. The only 2 clubs to have a fall in home ground crowds is the Eagles who have slipped below South, and North who have fallen below both South and the Eagles.
The Glenelg bandwagon must be nearly full, they have leapt ahead of Norwood, Centrals and Sturt this year.

I must say, I remain impressed with the loyalty of Norwood supporters. Even with their very limited on field success and lack of finals appearances in some years now, they still continue to remain up there in the crowd figures stakes...

Was having an interesting chat with a few mates in the long drive out to Gawler for basketball on Monday night and we were saying that with the exception of Norwood as mentioned above, the increase in crowd numbers for the more successful clubs is a given when the teams start to have a bit more on-field success...

Doggies are a classic example, with our recent premiership success, naturally more people are going to be drawn to their games. As much as people give stick to these so called "bandwagon" supporters coming out of the woodwork for the Bays and the Blues, I can see how it goes hand in hand with the team getting good results on the field. I think the rest of it is a flow on from there. The more people come to the games, the more money through the gate, the in ground catering takings, pokies revenue and clubrooms revenue for meals and drinks all then attribute to the quality of infrastructure and resources the clubs can then provide fans and the community.

Of course, Grand Central's wonderful upgrade and the wonderfull improvements at Glenelg are, in part, made easier by the income created by more fans coming through the gate and into the clubrooms. There are of course other areas where clubs improve facilities through grants and government assistance etc. but as a whole, the extra revenue created by fans is both healthy for the club itself and of course our great competition. Well done to ALL people who get behind their club and the SANFL putting your money into the best footy competiton in Australia (IMHO)

That's a bit harsh on the South fans, their home game crowds have gone up, as for the other two.................................

A couple of personal opinions:

1. Glenelg support - In my experience extends further than their home crowd totals this year ... At the Parade a few weeks back there was certainly a lot more Black and Gold than Red and Blue in the area's I ventured ... Same could be said with Sturt fans in Round 1, they are excellent travellers.

2. Norwood Figure - Is generally strong via good scheduling and the Friday night timeslots ... In those instances it's a great venue for both neutral supporters, and those those supporters looking to make a social evening out of the night ... Should the Legs ever get back to being a legitimate contender, it will be interesting to see if they have many to come out of the woodwork.

Crowds = more money for the club.

Not all memberships gain you entry to all matches, but mine does. So I guess the less memberships, and bigger crowds a club gets gives the club more money?

The last couple of years you could nearly have counted the Glenelg fans on both hands at Prospect, with the bandwagon full to capacity I'm expecting that to change this weekend.

I assumed the same as you CP. However, Norwood's home ground attendences may be boosted by great scheduling and the location of the stadium, I do think that the Legs have preserved their huge supporter base very well despite their lack of success.
Perhaps the average crowd per club, rather than homeground, would provide a better perspective of current support.

Norths crowd drops dont suprise me one bit, various reasons why.
1) Poor facilities at Prospect
2) Treatment of members by NAFC
3) Poor weather on some of our home games
4) The fact North has only played 1 decent drawing team there in Sturt (played South twice there, West and Eagles twice there!)
5) TV coverage of games due to assisting the ABC with programming and being close by
And most importantly:
6) Beer going up by $1 per can, WTF??

Of course, its all part of some people's efforts at the club who want an excuse to move to Adelaide Oval.

What about the other money spent at the game

Pie, pasty, Sausage, drinks, beer etc add more money to the clubs bottom line than memberships.

and of course there's the drinks & food after the game inside the club, as the Bays have experienced this year due to the renovations

I have a membership that gets me into every game and i know that i will spend much more money when i'm at the game or at the club after the game.

Yep, fair points CP. Norwood have the advantage of the Friday Night fixtures, where a lot of impartial supporters enjoy turning up for a few coldies to end the working week...then again, Bays Sunday and Public Holiday Monday fixtures have helped our averages significantly too. Thanks Sturt fans and the Bays bandwaggoners for helping us get our average up significantly last week...

Surprising that North and Eagles average crowds have been down...perhaps this indicates many supporters for both clubs are purely frontrunners, and drop off when their sides are supposedly struggling (I still think both North and Eagles will make the final 5).

The Westies figures are disappointing this season, but you can't blame some supporters for walking away for the time being, given the difficulty they would have in supporting a very poor side for far too long.

I believe gate takings are split 50/50 between the SANFL and the home club.
