That'd be awesome if we can get it happening. Perhaps Sturt or Glenelg would have more of a case to enter the comp than the new franchise ;)

What you mean Sturt should merge with the Bays and then throw their name in the ring. Maybe as the Blue Tigers or the Double Bays. A blue top with a yellow sash. I like your thinking Barto

that would solve the 8 club SANFL connundrum. Bays merge with DB's and leave, and Gawler joins.

Very disappointing crowd at Woodville today - less than 2000 was 1900 something.
Thanks to those from both teams who did make the effort.
Was more Eagles than Centrals fans there I reckon 55:45 split.

Would be great to see the Eagles play a home game at Moonta on a long weekend during the SANFL season, I am tipping that would be one way to get a large crowd to the game and to sign up a number of new members at the same time.

SANFL clubs in general have to learn to do things differently in order to maximise crowds and each club having a country match could go a long way to helping those clubs that are struggling for numbers at present.

That's a very good idea, I'd definitely go along to a match there (or anywhere in the Copper Triangle area).

I reakon it has a bit of a bearing on whether or not it was promoted well enough in the area. The Encounter Bay match had 2,738, which was more than what I (and most expected).

Even I went to that game, the extra costs of movement, promotions, etc would have meant you'd need at least 6k to pay for that game, it didn't, it failed, move on. Take out the people that travelled and you would have been lucky to have had 500, move it further away and the loss would be even worse.
As I said, its been tried, its failed, move on, worth the try, didn't work, move on.

You would probably agree from my clubs point of view it's a good idea however. I don't think we have had a match in our country zone, even the Clare match was a designated North home game.

Spelly,

I do recall something about Norwood having played a match at Moonta before, which I assume was for premiership points, so I am fairly certain SANFL footy has been played in the Copper Triangle before. has the area always been allocated to Woodville West Torrens?

Not so sure Wedgie.

South v Eagles at Encounter Bay in 2007 was about 1,000 above the Noarlunga average between these sides.

Sometimes these promotions need regularity to build a following. ie Glenelg playing on Queens Birthday Monday.

From memory promotions cost were not that great outside about $2k for the amusements and face painting. The cost of SANFL staff would not have been to much greater than a Noarlunga game.

All the local promotion by local media (including some great work by the Victor Times) was free publicity.

Will be interesting to see if South go back there Easter next year.

Anyone have the exact figures for today's games?

I think this was Woodvilles country zone before 1991, then the current Eagles side now has it. The only match for premiership points at Moonta was this:

Round 11 1951
Glenelg 1.7 5.8 8.17 9.21 (75)
Norwood 6.2 6.4 7.5 10.7 (67)

I don't have the crowd figure for this match unofrtunately.
