Cousins and the VFL

Ben Cousins is believed to be finalising paperwork that will allow him to register to play in the VFL, defore the June 30 deadline. Cousins would not be allowed to play for VFL clubs Collingwood and Geelong, that are effectively AFL reserves teams.

Cousins would be still playing if had swindled $800 million instead snorting half of Peru.

Listening to KG and Cornesy last night, yet again gave another example of Ricky Nixen being confused with "Whats best for Ben" and "Whats best for Ben's Contract$" ... I suppose all/most managers have the same attitude as it's their income, but didn't sound to me at all like he gave a toss about a bloke thats faced some serious issues.

I think its fair to say that most managers are going to have that attitude. Good luck to Ben, I hope hes over his problems, but the issues that he has had dont go away easily at all.

I hope he has really taken stock and decided to rehabilitate himself, and if he has I wish him well.
I just didn't believe the rapid "cure" last year. It just doesn't happen that fast.

Hopefully he comes back and plays some great footy and then plays AFL and dominates.

It will be interesting to see if his energy is as good without "speed" or "coke".

Thats pretty much what I said mate, I just wish they wouldn't put up flimsy claims that they actually give a crap about player x as a person.

I think he will be a very useful addition to any VFL side now without a pre-season or much training he will go out and dominate it i am sure he is a champion footballer. i wish him all the best and hope he has rid himself of all his problems.

I'd assumed he would naturally go the "Highthorn"!
Seriously, if he is now "clean" and wants to stay that way, he will need to pick a club that will support and reinforce his resolve.

According to his interview on the Footy Show, his plans are to sign with Pt Melbourne but not actually play for the club, rather just train with the club for the rest of the year.

He sounded much more realistic and thoughtful about his prospects at this interview than any previous one, suggesting he is genuinely taking his addiction problem seriously now. He seemed to be hinting that when it came to looking at a possible AFL club next year his main concern would be whether a club environment may lead him back into the old ways.

Problem:
Would a clean club risk him?
Dare he risk a club that isn't clean?

Once an addict, always an addict. Would have to be well clear of 'the scene' to avoid temptation again, takes a strong mind otherwise. Can think of a couple of clubs he'd want to avoid.
