Writing the dogs off

Postby the joker » Tue Jun 24, 2008 10:19 am

I get the feeling that alot of Sturt and glenelg supporters around SA think that they are in the grand final already you still have to remember if centrals do finish third one of you have to play them in the first final and they are a proven finals team and i wouldnt want to play them.
as for saturday Glenelg couldnt play any better in the first three qtrs and centrals can. they were missing Ian Callinan, Charles Slattery and Chris Gowans three pretty good ins.
also Brad symes was playing his first game in 6 weeks and justin westhoff was used to playing a completely different gameplan.

No-one could be stupid enough to write the Dogs off...................or could they

Seriously Central are the team to beat IMHO. They are just an awesome side and they always manage to lift come finals time. They'll do what they have to to get a top 3 spot and then look out.

So first it was April, then May now June

I havent seen anyone claiming a flag yet

FWIW Im happy to admit I believe the Dogs have dropped off a few %, every week the blokes you mentioned miss is another week they are going to struggle to regain match fitness....if you think having them back in the team is going to right the ship immediately you dont know footy...

Were you at the game Saturday v Central ? If so I'd like to know why you think Glenelg can't improve on
our efforts.

OK so Central had the three outs, with a couple of AFL blokes thrown in. Unlike Glenelg who were missing their
captain and our most experienced defender, and it was our CHF's first game after knee problems....

I haven't read any posts of anybody from Glenelg writing the Dogs off, and IIRC there have been a heap saying
that Central are a legitimate flag favourite, stand to be corrected if you can find them.

Can you actually quote any Glenelg people on this board who think they've won the flag ?

Im not writing them off, Im still happy I have $50 on them. Theyre a 10 goal better side in the finals.
Not having a dig but does anyone else have a good memory and find Glenelg supporters comments on this thread a touch ironic? ;)

Umm who the Hell is writing Centrals off??? Gee I hope you make all your important life decisions based on your feelings

No-one at Glenelg is writing centrals off we know they are a great side and will be there at the end of the year when teh whips are cracking.

As I've said before as A Glenelg suporter I know more than most Premierships aren't won in June - 1981, 1990 to name but two years.

However if you think we've peaked, well you can. We still have two or three important ins to come back yet. Our side can and will improve too from what you saw on Saturday.

That doesn't mean I think we are going to win this comp as Sturt and Centrals have more than legitimate claims and North is still a side very much respected by our club.

*edit*

You know your club must be going all right when opposition supporters on this site (and the old FootySA) stop bagging it and start bagging the supporters instead...

I 'spose my sins of 2006-07 - bagging North are coming back to hurt me... :D :D

Ah well enjoy this thread punters. Those of those close to action at the Bay know how well respected the other clubs are and that nothing is being taken for granted.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Are your eyes painted on? Most of the Blooze fans here are talking up the Bays as Grand Finallists and vice-versa.

If I was a serious gambler I'd have no qualms in putting the house on Central to play off in the Grand Final again. Whether their opponent will be Blues, Bays or Other remains to be seen.

Nice troll Joker.
You made me post something.
I dont know ANY Glenelg fans that think we are in the grand final already.
And I reakon i know a fair few of them too.
Sure plenty are excited with our team's progress. We were ordinary for a long time until mid last year.

Wedgie,
As a Glenelg supporter that used to post on this site & the FootySA site more regularly.
I grew very tired of the constant Bay bagging thrown up by all and sundry online, as a consequence i visit the site less and browse more than comment.
Now that we are going ok, I am loath to even comment on other teams as it is more often than not miss-understood.

So if a few blokes want to throw a bit of banter back. Good luck to them. None, if any of it, contains the venom that had been levelled at Glenelg in their darker years.

I am not sure of the irony in Glenelg fans posts, you may have spell that one out to me in plain English.
I would of said that most are keeping it pretty low key.

FWIW.
Dogs NO WAY written off. One loss at home mid season for a team with their finals pedigree means very little in the scheme of things. If anything it's an early wake-up call for them.
They ARE the Benchmark and are still premiership favourites.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

As a dogies supporter I may as well have my say.

Am only just starting to get over the loss at home now. Well done the bays.

That 1st quarter was probably the worst quarter of football that I have seen the dogs play since Glenelg belted us at Adelaide Oval a couple of years ago - including the 2006 GF where at least we had a go but were just outclassed.

Our inablity to close Glenelg down when the got a run-on and grind our way back into the game was a big disappointment. Since 2000 we have had the best defence in the league but not on Saturday.

I agree with the posters - a few class players back in doesn't automatically mean we will play better. It comes down to what's in the players heads and whether they are still hungry enough to stick to the game plan.
We used to be good :-(

After 1 loss, I don't think so.

Centrals have had lean patches in each of the last few years and always seem to come good.

If I were the Bay fans I wouldn't get too exited yet, big game for them this week and still a long time until the GF, wouldn't want either of Glenelg or Sturt to cop some injuries to key personnel late in the year.

I think us Bays fans have been quite humble in our recent successes.

So is it a given that if your team is successful, you must be bragging about it, even if you haven't actually said anything?

In general, I agree. Some mistake excitement for arrogance/getting ahead of oneself.

But some posts get bookmarked, no doubt from all sides.
