They aren't as good as the old State of Origin games.

in my books it is not even a state game and should not be promoted as one
it is comp v comp, if we are going to be serious about state games lets make is SA v WA not SANFL v WAFL.......

WA players playing in the SANFL should play for WA, Victorians playing in the SANFL Should play for Victoria and SA should pick South Australians, not interstate recruits who have played six sanfl games.........

change the concept and the selection criteria and you may get more interest, it's not the same as the old state of origin but at least it is state v state not comp v comp

So what we are saying is players shouldn't strive for a chance to represent their state? I think it's important for players to have that opportunity. The 22 players out there tonight certainly support state footy.

We can't let the tri-colours fade into history just because the AFL and the clubs are wussies.

So what if some players are not South Australian by birth, its league vs. league not state vs. state in the true sense of the concept. The players have been selected because they're the best in the league and should be given the honour of representing it.

I think we NEED them, it was so good last night watching all of us in the cheersquad come together, made me happy watching everyone wave their clubs flags as one.

It's always nice to see where your competitions level is at, and at the moment we're the best one. It's also good as it gives supporters of South Australian football something different to watch, and the best of their comp come to together in one squad.

We need it, just need it advertised better in the future.

Need it. Cause it is the only time when we as footy fans can come together and support the best state league in the country and have a go at the VFL.

They are neccessary but it needs to be state of origin and be played at the start or end of the season as part of a carnival.

This hurts me to write this seeing I was absolutely hooked on State Footy from 1973 (saw Jezza kick 10 against SA) upto mid 90s (loved the MCG win in 93) but since the advent of 2 SA AFL teams - State of Origin footy has served its purpose as we now get to kick a Vic every weekend. And then at state league level - SANFL is now dominated by good players who have migrated here either hoping to begin or on the other hand resurrect their AFL careers, playing against VFL teams who cannot pick the best players in the VFL comp as a lot of them are AFL listed or a fast fading WAFL comp. A one off state match in front of a small crowd proves nothing - a pre season knock out comp between the 32 SANFL,VFL, WAFL & NT clubs is the best way to decide on the strengths of the various leagues - play the games as curtain raisers in conjunction with the AFL NAB cup games for much needed pre-season maximum publicity for the state leagues.

I am not saying to get rid of state footy but l believe the concept should be state footy not comp v comp..

For example, when SA play Vic, the Gowans play for Victoria.

I have a real issue with players recruited from interstate who have played 8 rounds in our comp wearing the state jumper that Previous SA players have spilt blood for, if we decide to continue with a comp v comp format then lets design a new jumper...

But if we play victoria next year, why not let Gowans, Baird and Clayton play for Victoria and promote it as a true state game

Surely this will get the juices and passion for state footy back

SD

This is so bloody hard for me to do this.
SYDNEY-DOG I agree with you 100%.

If the MODERATORS delete this i will understand.

Did you know the WAFL has a restriction per player
per team from interstate, so they were at a distinct disadvantage.

You limited us in our options. I would have liked to vote for: Want State footy but in a different format. I agree with the idea that we go back to a Carnival - maybe as a pre-season event.
