Clearly the reason why this free kick wasn't paid was because Justin's big fat gut was in the way of the umpies sight... Just kiddin...

Maybe it wasn't seen due to Wedgies pet hate with the umpies... Facing the play while looking into a glaring sun.... 8)

If the umpie did miss that one it is a pretty OBVIOUS one but I guarentee you, every week and in every game there are 3 or 4 players infringed in this manner... McConnell isn't the only unprotected species in the comp fellas...

Couldn't have said it better bayman, all we ask for is consistancy for both sides...

Each week when the umpies are doing there pre game running warm up, as they pass by where I'm sitting I single one out, (whoever I see as being the crappest of the 3, usually Rowston ot Medlin) and yell out to them...

" Hey ............... (Rowston - for example), if you are going to be SH!T today, can you please be consistantly SH!T !!?? "

Said it to Richard Williams at Elizabeth last year and as he was running away from me, put his hand up as if to acknowledge my little request !!??

Wonder which 3 officals will be allocated for this big game ???

What a pathetic thread. My experience is that 99.99% of football fans have no idea what a fair free kick really is. Most of those photos (which I assume are the WORST ones) show no infringement. None show the whole scenario, and some don't even show any form of illegal contact! I'm so often ashamed of some people the way they wan't free kicks, or object to free kicks when the umpires clearly made the right call. Or were clearly insighted. Or worse still when the specator is obviously unsighted and assumes that because they saw nothing that nothing happened! And then they have the gall to abuse the umpires with such vitriol that if they were ever subjected to the same attention returned in any circumstance they would immediately go to the police. I would like to think that people here are smarter than that. Sadly, reality is that most of you honestly believe in the course of the game anything but a 60-3 free kick count in your favour is a sign of umpires being imcompetant, and obviously cheating. No player gets special treatment. No player gets unfavourable treatment. The umpire calls it as they see it from a more neutral perspective than basically the entire crowd. If you think your player(s) are being duped, then I'm sorry, but you are clueless. The umpires make mistakes like everyone, but not to the extent most people would have you believe. And if a player is in the habit of staging/exaggerating and that makes the umpires job harder then I have no problem with the umpire not making the call unless they are sure there was an infringement. Stop expecting the umpires to be 100% right, and most importantly STOP ASSUMING THAT YOUR BELIEF IS RIGHT!!!

And McConnell is a soft, lazy footballer who kicks goals when it doesn't matter, and I think will go missing when the pressure is on and his direct opponent will run off all day helping to create the attacking forays that ultimately may prove Glenelg's undoing if he can't be bothered chasing and hoping the ball is turned over so he can run into an open goal.

So with a comment like that does that mean you come to every Glenelg game? Why bother writing crap like that...

Yeah mate.. they sure didnt matter in his last outing... last qtr V Port when we led by 11 points. 45 out from opposite boundary lines. mmmm yeah.... didnt matter at all. MUCH.

and we'll take 2nd on the goal kicking list last year behind an obvious goal kicking machine in Chambers... and again sitting nicely on 33(ish??) goals from 11 outings again this year. Might "cruise" a little at times... but we love him... and he loves us!!

And in my experience, only about 5% of the safooty.net populace lacks the common intelligence to recognise a light-hearted thread when they see it.

Sadly Graham, you're in the 5%.

Not sure why you think I need support from dogs fans. The fact that I put basically everyone down including dogs fans would lead me to expect no support from anyone.

The last part was just an attempt to see what funny bites I could get from sensitive Glenelg fans. In all honesty McConnell is a good player. All players who play any league are, especially the regular ones. I just think he has a tendency to look for the easier option too often, and history is littered with just this sort of player failing to impact when it counts most (in other words finals, not some minor round game against a team in 8th spot whom you were 2 goals ahead of at the time anyway apparently! By all means use the quote as your sig. It may well become embarrassing for you if he does in fact do nothing of significance come September and October.

Well said Grahaml... =D> =D> =D> =D>

McConnell's real test will come in finals like you said, as will the test for all good players. But I do hope you have the last laugh over Dutchy

I'm the first to admit there's no guarantee when it comes to finals. No one gameplan will always beat another. And no one type of player will always be dominant or go missing. But finals and grand finals usually reward the hardest working most team oriented players and teams. And if you look at our most dominant displays the constant theme has been hard work, team play and playing the percentages along with absolute faith in the game plan. Who knows, McConnell might even kick 10 just to make me look stupid now!

Anyway, stop putting this thread back on topic. I tried so hard to get it off topic by sledging everyone about the umpires, so stop it.

I can't remember the last time someone really got a hold of us like that. Chambers got 7 or so last season but it was more from quick turnovers than just being massively dominant. I remember dreading the ball going into some of those Port forwards (mostly Hodges I guess) because it felt like they were just going to end up with the ball.

I think I can recall former West Adelaide and one time Crow player Adam Richardson kicking a bag of maybe 8 or 9 against us in one of his seasons of being a Ken Farmer medalist... Could be wrong, might have been Daniel Bradshaw's brother that also played for the Bloods ???
