North's Chris Ladhams retires from SANFL football

Postby Big Phil » Sat Jun 14, 2008 4:26 pm

Hey Footy Fans,

I was listening to the 5RPH call of North v West earlier this afternoon and heard one of the commentators mention that Chris Ladhams has today announced his retirement from the North Adelaide Football Club and the SANFL.

I assume he played in the reserves game today as selected and wonder whether his decision is the result of his body not being able to hold up anymore ? There were plenty of rumors floating around about this in the pre-season and it's interesting that Lad's played this far into the season before deciding to hang the boots up. Has the decision been made perhaps because his passion to play has somewhat dissapated, who knows.

It's a bit of a blow to the Rooster, although he hadn't played in the league side for a few weeks now, because he was in good form at the start of the year before injuring himself. Will he now give up footy all together or will be pull the boots on for Moonta over on the Yorke Peninsula ? He played for them last week or the week before I think as I believe his father coaches the side. Former Woodville-West Torrens big man Paul Lindsay also played in the game with both Lindsay and Ladhams getting named in the best players.

Chris is just on ABC TV now at half time of the coverage and mentioned that it's his neck injury that has forced him into retirement. Sadly he said it was the bulging disk in the neck from that boating accident with Brett White that has attributed to his departure from the game. He said it got so bad at one stage he could not even get out of bed. He said he made the decision with the club doctor and his wife a few weeks ago and I guess he wanted to play one last game to say goodbye to the Prospect faithful.

Well done Chris on a good SANFL and brief AFL career, all the best in retirement...

Think you'll find he was playing at Moonta today as well, and has been for a few weeks...

I don't think so SJABC, not unless he can morph from Prospect to Moonta and back to Prospect within a couple of hours mate...

I think you'll find he played reserves this morning at Prospect and was just on the ABC coverage being interviewed at half time. He said he only played the 1 game in Moonta and probably wont play there for the rest of the year, he'd rather help out Reserves coach Scott Peters with help and advise for the youngsters coming through.

What a rabble! Jarman didn't even know that Ladhams had retired! You would have thought that the retiring player would have informed the coach first! GO YOOO ROOSTERS!

What? He's like 28! One of my favourite footballers who could have been a great AFL player. Such a shame it went downhill like this. :(

I saw that on the ABC coverage Centurion and thought that was a bit strange. I got the impression Jars wasn't too happy about not being told

Well done to Lads, great bloke, great career and great junior coach advisor, it was obvious watching him in the Magoos today that he was not right ( still played a bloody good game though) so he pulls the pin at 28, one never knows 12 months off and keeping one self fit he may return, lets hope so, if not thanks for everything Lads, you are up there with some of the best that have pulled on the red and white, lets just hope the club throws him straight into an assistant coaches role :D :D :D

Wow...

There seems to be a bit of off field drama within the North Adelaide Football Club...

Chrs Ladhams is forced to retire due to a neck injury suffered in a boating accident with Brett White ???

He doesn't bother to tell his coach and Jarman gets informed by the media in a post game interview, not seeming too impressed ???

There are 2 other players currently out suspended that are apparently going to be told they are not required at the club ???

I wonder why Coulter quit, maybe he should come back out to Centrals, he can fit into our ressies side I reckon ???

What do you mean by "work injuries" with Tim Martin Wedgie, I'm not quite sure I understand that definition mate ???

Doesn't he work in his old man's real estate firm, what kind of injury can you get from that field of work ???

Now I'm hearing Shane Shubert will no longer be wearing a North Adelaide jumper for season 2008 and beyond ???

Like Wedgie eluded to, maybe the last few posts on here need to be transferred to a new topic titled: Are North Adelaide imploding ???

In saying all that though, I still think North shouldn't be discounted for a top 3 finish come season's end. Okay they are not playing great footy, despite winning comfortably today after last weeks thrashing from Sturt, but I just think they have a qulity side and on their day, can beat any of the top 3 sides in the comp. If they have their best available side on the park and they all come switched on to play, then that's a possibility.

Getting this thread back on track to the topic at hand, well done to Lads on a great career, pitty it had to end in this way. He has always been one of those players from the opposition side that you tend to hate because you have nothing but respect for their footballing ability and almost wish they were on your side. Chris was certainly the type of player that could turn a game off his own boot and kick 4 or 5 freakish goals to get his side up but did his fair share of of field dramas as well. I always thought that he would have looked good in a Central's jumper and reckon our captain, Paul Thomas would agree with me. Ladhams has seemed to be Thomo's bogey player in seasons gone by and I can think of at least 3 or 4 games where the Rooster's number 40 has kicked a bag of 4 or 5 on the 2004 Magarey Medalist.
