That's why my boy didn't go to a private school as they would have held up his other sports and football.

Glad to hear it. Private boys schools are good if you want ritual humiliation, tuition in archaic languages and expertise in "soggy biscuit", but unless you're from old money they are no good for a potential sports career.

btw - the same is true for girls schools too, although instead of "soggy biscuit" they play hockey. But let's face it, that's just a euphemism for lesbian sex...

Keep an eye for a young lad by the name of Todd Sheppard...

Playing in the Under 19's for Centrals at the moment and is a bit of a gunn on baller. who's hard at it and has good endurance and skills...

I actually played footy with him up at Golden Grove and he won the Div 5 medal last year as an 18 year old kid, not a bad effort...

If he can stay switched on, should be able to push for ressies and eventually league selection...

Probably more a case of "watch this space" than him setting the League on fire in 2008...

Don't know enough about the players to agree or disagree, Mal. Which means that those players fit the bill I was wanting a lot more than the other ones I think we all knew about! Now the challenge is to see whether these kids will indeed go on and perform.

Perhaps we can set a challenge for people to name players yet to play league, yet to be drafted and yet to play rep footy (like u18) who can go on and play league footy. In a few years time we might see someone's pick go on to win a Magarey!

Well said joelie, couldn't agree more mate...

Went and watched the first 3 quarters ofr the Norwood v Glenelg game (walked down there with a Redleg's mate, Coopers is only down the road from home) and thought Holmes was very very impressive, as he was when we played the bays down there a few weeks ago. Clearly, the main reason me and my mate left at 3/4 quarter time was because he was embarrassed by his sides performance and didn't want to see the end.

Anyway, back to young Holmesy, I find it UNBELIEVABLE that he didn't make the State Under 20's squad shown in the Budget. According to that very Buget he is only 19 so I can't understand how he isn't AT LEAST in the initial training squad, even worse considering the fact that Glenelg's ressies coach is the State U/20's coach, in Michael Godden...

Keep up the good form Tom, I'm sure you might have a bit of interest from AFL talent scouts...

How has he gone against North and the Bays ???

Hav hasn't been great in the last few games, but it seems few understand his role in the team changes a lot. He's often asked to go down back and usually does a good job. Last year he kicked 2-3 goals a game changing from full forward to a flank and shut down a man when down back most of the time. But his most important job is to make sure if he doesn't mark the ball it at least comes to ground, and he does this nearly every time. Callinan, Ware, Dutschke and the Gowans fed off his palming the ball down their throats that often last year he was worth 5 goals a game to us. That allowed us to play Schell down back, where he dominated, and Lawry, Grima at times and Alan Obst later on further up the ground to avoid being bogged down at half forward. I don't think we'll hear his name called on a draft day, but he is surely being monitored by AFL scouts and if his form improves to the point that his year this year ends up better than his first year, don't be surprised if the Power or Crows invite him to training.

I wasn't sure but suspected so. Regardless, I think an improvement will result in him training again with the Power, or perhaps another club. His straight kicking would be a massive asset to any club that can get the ball into his hands.

He's certainly had MORE than 2 outstanding games mate, trust me, I've seen EVERY one of his 27 games and I wouldn't think that a young lad who can make the state squad would have done so on 2 outstanding games.

Let me remind you of his great versatility that was clearly proved against your mob in round 2 down at Unley. Ian Perrie had come off a cracking debut against Norwood in round 1, kicking 6 from memory and Havelberg completely shut out his influence on the game. Admittadly, yes, we lost the game but it wasn't due to hav's performance, we were crap through the midfield and up forward.

He played alright against North on Anzac Day mate, kicked 3 from memory and set up another couple of teammates. I know he struggled a little bit against Todd Grima in the Glenelg game down at the Bay but you are making your judgements on a player that you might have seen 2 or 3 times LIVE and based your opinion on 2 significant goal kicking performances. I bet if you ask any other supporter of all clubs if they would like to have Dan Havelberg in there side and I reckon I know what their answer will be... YES...

BTW, who where the youngsters that you thought were better than Havelberg against your mob, because I know he was named in the top 3 or 4 best players when we lost to you in round 2 at Unley...

Do us a favour Blue Boy, can you start up a post, or make mention somewhere on here as to how good young Charlie Sharples is. Just so I can go on there and make uneducated, unsubstantiated dumb comments about how he is over rated based on a couple of good performances...

BTW - Obviously that was a sarcastic comment, from what I have seen of him, I actually DO RATE him as a good young player. See Blue Boy, it's not that hard to acknowledge a good young player from an opposition club...
